He had some good ones but he could be befuddled at times.

2011 vs. Alabama OT Game TD that wasn't a TD

He accidentally said Jack Hunt caught the touchdown in the bluegrass miracle instead of Devrey Henderson.

That's the edited version. He originally said it was caught by Jack Hunt. Jack Hunt.

Jack Hunt, #8 was a safety, converted from WR. Devery Henderson, #9 was a track star converted to WR. Let's just say their ancestors were from different continents.

Anyway - there is a famous play in LSU football history. It is commonly referred to as the "Bluegrass Miracle".

Although I cannot find the unedited feed, Hawthorne incorrectly attributed the catch to Hunt, a safety, rather than Henderson, a wide receiver. That was in 2002 and his vision has really been inadequate to call football games since well before that.

It was still a great call. He's a passionate ambassador for LSU athletics and still a passable basketball play-by-play announcer.

His call of the "Shot Heard Round the World" is probably a top 5/top 10 in all of sports history.
