Question for the OT professionals regarding promotions.

Let's say you worked for this company for a few months at the very bottom of the totem pole. The manager of your dept signed you up to take a test for a supervisor position. You and another guy make the two highest scores of all participants, and offered a position with another dept in desperate need for 2 supervisors. The initial offer is for let's say 60k a year and supposed to be effective immediately. Let's say this was at the end of 2014 before holiday shutdown. After the holidays, you find out management in the new dept has changed policy and now your offer is for 40k with a potential 5k raise every year upon evaluation. Still more than what you made at your original position, but LESS than what a good number of the people you'll be supervising will make(let's say they make 48k).
Do you feel you have grounds to ask for at least 50k? Or would you push for the original offer of 60k? Employees making 48 are maxed out pay at their position. 60k is max pay for supervisor position
Would you feel disrespected and slighted that the company would offer one thing and then basically renig on the initial offer(for both you and the other new supervisor) after you started training. Would you ask to go back to your former position? Inquiring minds want to know

look for 50k with raise potential pending yearly eval.
you don't really expect to jump brand new into a position and make max pay, do you?

Ask for $55 and maybe youll get $50.
I wouldn't consider working in a supervisory role where my subordinates earn more money than me (unless it's a sales job or something). That's fricked up.

Well, for the past 60 years, that's how it's been at my job. You even got max pay while training for the position. This policy just changed AFTER I was offered the position

I'd push, at the very least, to be making 50k. It is really tough to manage people when you make less than them.
