Why do our coaches huddle on the court sans players during timeouts?

You'd think they were discussing strategies of national security only to run inbounds plays that lead to either no shots or terrible shots with the clock expiring. WTF are they doing out there all by themselves?

Fair enough, but that doesn't answer my question--why?

I've often wondered the same thing. My guess would be, by rule they are only allowed to meet with players for an set amount of time (30 or a full minute) during breaks in the action. Thus during the 3 or 4 minute media time outs they can only talk with the players for a small portion of the time out. So they discuss with the coaches before they talk with the players. Just a thought, I'm probably way off

They're briefly talking strategy on which play to run, who to put in, which players need some quick coaching, etc.

...or maybe they're just looking at the Tiger Girls and doing a wowyhi.

Why does Dupre sit in the middle of the bench?

Why do basketball players, who are typically the largest of all athletes, have to be crammed into tiny folding chairs still? Can't they kick the trainers to a second row and let them spread out?

I was wondering the same thing. It was startling to me that with only a few seconds left that jones was at the free throw line with his only his coaches while calipari had his whole team huddled up around him. I found it very odd almost like jones needed his assistants to tell him what to do so he could relay that to the team.

As a group they discuss what needs to be done when play ensues. Then JJ addresses the team and supposedly directs them in what the strategy will be. It's to get all opinions then have One Voice in actual team huddle.

For certain types of timeouts (30 second TOs) the team is required to stay on the floor
