SCH sig "Lads its Tottenham" got me wondering if there are any other great quotes.

I know Ibra has some hilarious quotes but im looking for stuff more serious and deeper than "First I went left, he did too. Then I went right, and he did too. Then I went left again, and he went to buy a hot dog."

quote:

"Without fans who pay at the turnstile, football is nothing. Sometimes we are inclined to forget that. The only chance of bringing them into stadiums is if they are entertained by what happens on the football field."

quote:

"The most pleasure any manager can get is seeing everyday boys joining the Club as youngsters and growing into men and giving themselves a better social standing than they could ever have dreamed of previously."

quote:

"We did it by playing football. Pure, beautiful, inventive football."

- Jock Stein

quote:

"Celtic have reinvented football. It was a beautiful night of football. We thank Celtic and are grateful to Real Madrid for being worthy of the occasion. The Scots played stronger and better and deserved their victory. May the football which Celtic play stay among us. Amen."

- Marca on the Celtic-Real Madrid match in 1967

quote:

"Celtic, like Barcelona, are more than a football club. Our clubs are a symbol of a culture and community that has not always been made welcome in their respective countries."

- Xavi

"If you'd given me the choice of going out and beating four men and smashing a goal in from thirty yards against Liverpool or going to bed with Miss World, it would have been a difficult choice. Luckily, I had both." - George Best

He didn't have as many famous quotes as Ibra but the elite quality is undeniable.

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

Man will forever be a Legend!

"I used to go missing a lot... Miss Canada, Miss United Kingdom, Miss World."

"In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol - it was the worst 20 minutes of my life."

"He (Beckham) cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right."

A few highlights...

quote:

"Football, bloody hell"

quote:

"They say he's an intelligent man, right? Speaks five languages! I've got a 15-year-old boy from the Ivory Coast who speaks five languages!" (On Wenger)

quote:

"My greatest challenge is not what's happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f*****g perch. And you can print that."

quote:

"All they can talk about is Manchester United." (On Manchester City)

quote:

'You must be joking. Do I look as if I'm a masochist ready to cut myself? How does relegation sound instead?' (When asked if Liverpool were genuine title contenders in 2007)

Sir Alex Ferguson

And one that is actually about the game itself...

quote:

"Well, football is a hard game; there's no denying it. It's a game that can bring out the worst in you, at times."

It was in the top 50.

I enjoyed reading through those quotes. Van Gaal isn't bad at providing quotes, but it's hard to beat SAF
