Looks like the forces out there that want to end UAB's football program are witnessing tDecline in their power.

In the turbulent weeks since the University of Alabama at Birmingham announced that it would shutter its Division I football program, rallies and protests have erupted on campus, powerful donors have threatened to withhold their support, and the faculty senate approved a resolution of no confidence in President Ray L. Watts’s ability to lead the university.
The message was delivered: Football is a serious matter in Alabama. And up against a wave of opposition, Watts and U.A.B. have cracked open the door for a potential reinstatement of the football program in 2016.
A task force is reviewing the finances of the athletic department, which has two-thirds of its $30 million operating budget subsidized by the university, and reappraising the findings from an independent consulting company, CarrSports, that led to the decision to drop football. The task force will make recommendations, but the university reserves the right to decide whether football is feasible.

This is huge! Now UAB supporters can resume not going to games.

Reinstate in 2016 with tons of support and by 2020 it will be back to the same ~10K crowd at games and running in the red as a program...

It's crazy. UAB football couldn't draw flies for over twenty years but somehow its demise is the biggest travesty in the history of sports.

You have concluded that UAB football is coming back and the power brokers have lost because a task force is being formed?
Ok.
Ok.

No one gives a shite about UAB football besides the thirty people that protested that one time before dinner.
The reason why this is a story is because people hate Alabama, hate how much success Alabama has had recently, and want to do anything they can to tarnish Alabama's reputation.
I say that as an Auburn fan.

I applaud you for your honesty.

Looks like they are willing to throw good money after bad to hire yet another independent consulting firm to evaluate whether the program was profitable and whether football is feasible......

No, what it looks like is that a reporter with the New York Times stumbled across a month old story
Original AL.COM story - dated January 10th, 2015
and somehow decided it was important today.

I disagree, as an Auburn fan and Alabama & Auburn graduate.
There's been a power struggle over UAB for as long as I can remember but I never noticed it until UA trustees blocked the Jimbo Fisher hire in 05/06 (When Alabama football was in the shitter).
Since then, there have been similar flare ups over issues such as the on-campus stadium and money allocation.
Yes, this is a lot about Alabama and UA trustees. No, this has little to do with Alabama's success on the field. Alabama could be in the shitter and Birmingham people would still be pretty mystified at UAB's president having the grace of a 400lb gymnast while shutting down a football program.

If the Baby Bear don't want it, it ain't happening. And he's made his feelings well known, openly, for there to be any doubt.

There are only a handful of football programs that don't run in the red.
