One of my best friends caught this big girl this past Saturday. She was 30.5" and weighed 8 or 8.5 lbs on the Boga. He let her go after getting pics and measurements for a replica mount. Baffin is the place to go in TX for a good chance at a fish of a lifetime and I was supposed to be on this trip but backed out. I grew up on the water in Slidell and know a bunch of monsters are caught on the trestles and in the deep water by Seabrook but I don't think they generally get that long though right?. Maybe I am remembering wrong and they do get in the 30" range in the lake?

My father in law caught a 21.5" Speck at the Causeway last Friday. That's the biggest I've seen come out the lake in a LOOOOOOONG time.

The guy he was fishing with won the CCA STAR East Trout division in 2009 with an 8.60lb trout. Not sure how long it was.

Here's FIL's trout:

NICE trout!

I fished Laguna Madre a couple of years ago. We were after a big one like that but the fish had lock jaw for most of the trip. Hey that's big trout fishing for you. Interesting thing about Texas trout fishing is the big beautiful boat that you run around in and then it's out the boat wading to fish.

Yes, there are some big trout like that in Lake Ponchatrain, at least there used to be. I remember my dad catching some lunkers many years ago. The big females don't hang with the school trout.

hooked into one about 32" on Causeway on Mothers Day 2010

32" is being generous because she was floating just behind my stick on 36" fish measuring tape on by boat and was actually almost as long as the tape but i refuse to believe i hooked into a 36" Trout on the Causeway and had her floating boatside.

Very nice trout. Buddy caught a 29" a couple years ago in gulf shores. Only weighed a little over 6.

Thanks for quoting me. If you want to catch trout of a lifetime, Baffin Bay is the place. July 2012, I caught the two biggest trout of my life in one morning. First was 26", second was 28", it's an amazing trophy trout fishery.

I worked in San Antonio in 2006 and 2007 and was able to fish Baffin Bay a few times with customers. The first time I went, there was a 24" and 26" speck caught in my boat. I was completely blown away at the size of the trout in that area.

They only kept 5 trout a piece, which goes for something I suppose.

Texas definitely has some big sow trout!

My biggun was caught out of venice and was 28.5 inches long and topped out a little over 7 lbs. I caught him the day after the Star tourney was over and he woulda placed that year.

Ive had the pleasure of catching several specks over 26inches over the years. And my heart still pounds any time I see one on the end of my line,

Baffin Bay has to be the best spot on the coast for monster specks. I've heard it's related to the abnormally high salinity levels. I fished there one time and caught a 10.5 pounder. By far the biggest trout I've ever caught by 5 pounds, and I've fished for specks since I was a little kid.

Yeah, I think that's what I was getting at in the OP. It seems the trout in LA are shorter and much much fatter than the monsters along the coast here in TX. It seems fisherman in LA measure a trophy trout by the lbs where TX fisherman measure by the inch. At least that is the observation I have made. When I was growing up fishing for Reds and trout we would say oh man, we limited out with a bunch of 2-3 lbers and here they say we tore em up in the 20-24" range for instance.
