Never lived in a dorm myself but I would figure that campus police would have more authority over campus dorms, and that the students would sign something (without reading of course) before moving in?

Doesn't sound enforceable. It's the student's domicile. They have rights, too.

eta lol what a douche.

Cop: you're belligerent.
Student: I'm belligerent? Are you fricking stupid?

(cops search dorm)
student: oh look. it's ranch dressing!! Oh, you found my sweat pants!!

Reeks of a Crim Pro Exam. Kid was an a-hole for sure. As for the search...I'm not really sure. I don't believe that the campus police can just barge in without a constitutional arrest, authorized consent, or plain view.

I remember that public schools have a reasonable belief exception, but they couldn't be inordinately intrusive given the violation. I believe the exception was applied to school searches as well and not student dormitories.

LSU essentially operates as though the Dorm Room is a rented apartment/house.

So they have access as a landlord for repairs, safety issues, etc. and police need warrant to enter unless there's immediate threat.

This is really old but here's what happened:

quote:

“After a thorough internal investigation, the officer in question has been terminated from his employment at the University of Kentucky, effective immediately," said UK Police Chief Joe Monroe. "The officer in question had inappropriate physical contact with a student. The officer, as a result, was in violation of a number of university employment policies.”

The kid was a dick in how he insulted the cop for having braces but he was in the right for refusing a search.

You have nothing to gain from cops searching you. They are looking for a reason to lock you up in a cage. Interaction with them should be kept to an absolute minimum.

It looked like an illegal search and a violation of rights, to me.

Changed the title. The guy was wearing a VT sweatshirt so I thought it was there.

I love when cops realize they're bejng taped. The behavior just instantly changes.

I'd have a cop arrested for battery the way he came in pushing like that for no reason whatsoever other than he didn't like the tone the guy took with him.
