I started watching soccer during the World Cup and have fell in love with it. I picked Chelsea as my team but I just as much enjoy watching arsenal, city, psg, barca, and Real Madrid play. Im curious to those that have been watching longer than me, how long did it take for you to find that one team to root for.

You don't have to pick one team, if you don't want to. I don't have a favorite team. I just really enjoy watching soccer at the highest levels. I follow the Premier League and Champions League pretty closely. And, to a lesser extent, the other major European Leagues. You said you enjoy watching other teams anyway. No need to pigeonhole yourself by picking a random team just to do it.

This. Just spend a season or two watching and getting to know teams, and favorites will emerge.

Don't listen to ENS. You'll get lots of hate for picking Chelsea but just shrug it off. Just enjoy the wins and enjoy the Mourinho mind tricks. Join us in our season thread if you wanna talk about Chelsea things without as much hate.

In response to the other part, it varies. I decided on Chelsea due to them being the team I had a connection with. Doesn't stop me from enjoying the play of others though. Just watch as much as you can with as many teams as you can and you'll have someone you get attached to. BPL is easiest to watch in the States so just keep that in mind. Don't let others influence your choice for or against and you'll enjoy it all that much more.

I did some research on history and tradition... Took me all of about 2 weeks to choose Liverpool over Chelsea and Arsenal.

A bunch of plastics. Chelsea has very little history to boast about, but we like em because Uncle Roman spends money liked a drunken sailor in a whorehouse. Front running glory hounds I tell ya.

And your team? If you wanna compete you gotta spend money. Otherwise you will fail. History didn't save Nottingham Forest or Leeds. Sorry if 80 years in the top flight isn't enough history for you to support a team though, not that history should be the only reason to look at a club anyway. Now Chelsea is looking to win more Championships I do my part to support Chelsea and won't be jumping ship ever.

And what helped me once I picked a team was being able to listen to podcasts, watch a bunch of youtube videos, and frequent the subreddit.

frick offffff Chelsea FC!
You ain't got no history
Five European cups and 18 leagues
That's what we call history!

Serious answer, just watch as much as you can and all the teams you enjoy. Over time you'll find the ones that you get more emotionally invested as compared to the others that you might enjoy watching just cause it's good football

If you want to save time, you'll pick the most relevant team in EPL history:

beware of choosing the "in" club. because, yeah, sure, you're in the champions league but then one day your chairman starts spending 80k a week on goldfish and then you finish in 5th and the bills keep coming in and the more you pay the more come in and then you overpay for seth johnson and nick barmby and sell your best homegrown talent and then you go into administration and get relegated and instead of playing ac milan you're playing yeovil and still like 80 mill in debt and ken bates takes over and sells on to some arabs who have no money AND THEN ITS PUBLISHERS CLEARINGHOUSE

sorry, just pick chelsea

Don't pick a team. Just watch and the team will choose you.
