Since the Music Board is already talking about the Baton Rouge Blues Festival and JazzFest in New Orleans, let's get the Festival International thread going too.
What: Festival International de Louisiane is a free multi-day festival featuring 70+ bands
When: Wednesday, April 22 to Sunday, April 26
Where: downtown Lafayette, Louisiana
Who: Check out the Festival International de Louisiane 2015 Artists playlist on Spotify.
Why: Cause it's gonna be awesome
If you haven't been to Festival International, I really suggest you check it out. I'm coming in from Austin this year.

New this year:

I only lived in Lafayette for about two years, but this quote sums up how I felt when I was there:

Festival International de Louisiane has announced the lineup for 2015. Anjélque Kidjo from Benin, Ukrainian folk-punk quartet DakhaBrakha, Portland's MarchFourth Marching Band, Quebec's Nomadic Massive, Lafayette's own GIVERS and Buckwheat's World feat Buckwheat Zydeco serve as this year's headliners.
New this year:

Have no fear, fans of Festival International de Louisiane. Lafayette's biggest festival remains free.
But Festival International now has new passes offering paid access to bathrooms, express beverage lines, even a rooftop lounge overlooking Parc Sans Souci.
Festival director Missy Paschke-Wood advised festival fans to remain calm and enjoy the festival — still free but with some perks if you'd like to pay and help the festival.
[The paid passes with special perks are divided into three tiers ranging in price from $65 to $1,000.]

Big Freedia, the undisputed Queen of New Orleans Bounce, will be playing the first ever Official Festival After Party on Friday, April 24 at NiteTown. Festival is thrilled to welcome this trailblazing artist to Lafayette. Tickets to the After Party are $20 and can be purchased online at festivalinternational.org. All proceeds benefit Festival.
I only lived in Lafayette for about two years, but this quote sums up how I felt when I was there:

"For me, the whole year revolves around waiting for Festival International," said Larson. "It's the best time of year in Lafayette.

I love the fest, but I'm not sure if they'll ever top the 2012 fest when they brought in Robert Randolph and Gary Clark Jr. I'd love to see them bring more blues/rock.

Those two performances were awesome, and they're much more in line with my day-to-day music taste.

Great festival. I haven't been in years but would love to go back.

Bumping for this weekend.
Anybody have pointers on what bands to see? I'm open to suggestions.

I came here to start this thread! I am pumped about Festival this weekend.
I'm looking forward to seeing John Cleary, Joe Driscoll and Sekou Kouyate, of course I can always be found at the cajun/creole scene. I've been loosing weight in anticipation of all of the food as well.

They really need to move this festival up one week and not compete with Jazzfest.

Conventional wisdom says yes, but every year the crowds are bigger than the previous year. Folks that I have talked to who are in charge of festival all say the same thing off the record of course: Keeping it on the first week of Jazzfest gets rid of the "festival crowd" dirty hippy, gypsy types. They really want to keep it a free, family oriented festival, so far so good I guess

I'm not certain here, but I always thought having it the same weekend was pretty intentional -- it lets them pull in artist who can perform at both festivals as well as giving travelers making a Louisiana weeklong vacation a reason to come to Acadiana.

Exactly. Many tourists go to both festivals.

I'll be there. Line-up is pretty meh this year, but I'll be there regardless.
Should we have a TD meet up?

Going to NO for the Pels game on Thursday but I'll be there every other night. Really looking forward to hearing the Givers.
And yeah, I'm glad it's the same weekend as Jazzfest as well.

You are kidding right?
I've never smelled so much patchouli in my entire life as when this festival goes on.
