I have been asked to help with the booking of the music for the Washington Catfish Festival on April 18th. First time I ever done something like this. I am meeting with KBON about sponsorship today.

So far bands that I talked to that are available for that date are:

Jaryd Lane
Jamie Begeron (only at night)
Spank the Monkey
Wicked Waters
Blaine Roy
Geno Delafosse (already booked for a day performance)

Other possibilities i have are:
Dustin Sonnier
Three Piece White

I also have someone helping me out he has a connection to some 80's guy named "Egyptian Lover" who he wants me to headline. Personally I never heard of him and I looked up his music and sounds terrible. But I am being told he could draw a crowd. Anybody ever heard of him?

Any other suggestions that would draw a good crowd for a reasonable price?

So it's your fault it's so awful?

Not surprised.

Does it have to be specific genres, and what is the budget?

Definitely book Egyptian Lover. Might want to see if JJ Fad and Tone Loc are available as well.

Genre does not matter.

As for the budget the mayor told me to round up some names and prices and go from there.

I've played an integral role in the lineups of many noteworthy festival lineups since the turn of the millenium. Personal highlights include, but are not limited to, Bonnaroo 2006, Coachella 2004 & 2009, Lollapoolza 2007, Vegoose 2006, Voodoo 2007, Hangout 2011, Interlocken 2013, Glastonbury 2012, and Farewell the Dead 2015.

Yeah looks like you're way out of my league, but I'll ask anyway. Do you have any suggestions or any good contacts for me?

If I were you, I'd contact Bernie Cyrus (use to be the head of the La. Music Commission). He's a friend of mine and knows every band in the state and would be happy to help.

If you want to go that route, just say so and I'll let him know you'll be contacting him.

Send him a message on Facebook (www.facebook.com/bernie.cyrus?fref=browse_search).

Here is some real advice. Find and hire a good talent broker. If you dont already have connections into the music industry, cold calling isnt going to get you very far. Or if in a pinch, go to local music venue and figure out who books acts for the club.

Music biz is very insular and hard to crack. But if you have someone on inside, you can almost get a response (even if a no) from any band on the planet.

Excellent advice.

Booking bands is a lot more difficult than people think. shite goes south very quickly!

I don't have much experience in the way of bands; but I do in hip hop (I mean agents are agents anyways though right?)

BlackenedOut has some good advice. It may behoove you to find a good talent buyer unless of course that's what you plan on becoming for this festival then I guess ya gotta start somewhere.
