Yeah.. ds2 is a fine game in its own right. It just doesn't compare to ds1.
It doesn't have the heart is a good way to put it. I can't quite describe it fully but people who played both know what I mean.
Ds1 just oozed character and lore and secrets and environment. I would spend hours reading ds1 lore and watching youtube vids. The boss fights were extraordinary.
