you must not have a daughter if you think that's "creepy"

Why 8? Is that the age you start finding girls attractive?

I have young daughters. I will be attending one of these functions in the next week. I will not be attending with my teenage daughter.

ETA: I'm mainly against the purity ball movement that has been happening. If the dances were strictly father daughter dances, that's fine. But at a lot of these, there is a creep factor with the daughter pledging purity to her father.

What in the world would possess you to think that it's creepy, especially the pic that you posted?

I would imagine that these types of events promote bonding and the dad gets to show his daughter how she should be treated.

good thing.

I think its ok for the daughter and father to go on a dinner date together. So that the daughter is aware of how a guy should treat her.

as long as the parent daughter relationship line is not crossed.

It's going to be as creepy as you make it out to be. This is an opportunity to discuss the subject with your daughter; and if you don't, I guarantee that some young punk sure as hell will.

Nothing wrong with it, no matter what age.

funny sidenote: Last night at dinner my daughter (she's 6 and in 1st grade) informed me a little boy in her class asked her to be his Valentine. She said she turned him down and told him "I'm my daddy's Valentine". Just about made me cry.

Absolutely - don't want my daughter marrying an a-hole and dancing on a pole for money

ETA: the purity ball thing creeps me out.
