What's really the point in signing a kid that you know isn't going to qualify?

Other, than Cutrer, who else has ever ended up at LSU after going the juco route? Is it just to say that you signed the guy?

Miracles happen sometimes, Eddy Lacy for example.

What does it hurt? Doesn't cost you a spot if he fails to qualify, and if miraculously he does you get rewarded for your faith.

Pretty low risk IMO, even if it very rarely works out.

Everyone wanted to sign Peters and he has to go to JUCO first. Brandon is still a 6'4 200 lb WR. Cameron loves those big wideouts.

Well, its just a formal thing now. Sign with us, and we'll walk you through the process. Since they don't count against the numbers unless they make the grades/score, and enroll, its just a nice gesture that you hope gives you some good pub with them, their family, and other recruits that might be their friends...And just maybe fill a spot later, when they qualify out of JUCO...but I get the point..

not sure, don't quote me on that

Lavalais was a prison guard for two years, he did not go to a juco.

To fill the quota of non-qualifiers. Kind of like the rope a dope. Ypu look here, meanwhile we sneak another guy in the back door.

Good point. One of the local talking head radio guys was saying today that one of the things that sold Sione Teuhema on LSU last year was they were the only school that took the time to walk him through what core courses, grades, etc. he needed.

Not exactly the same thing I'll grant you. But a little effort like that can't hurt with recruits.
