In recruiting, what you need is a "class" of players, to increase the odds that you will get enough to emerge as major contributers. This class is likely to produce at least 8 or more impact players in their time at LSU.

Over a 4 year timeframe (some stay 3 and go Pro, others stay 5, so lets just go with 4 as average time on campus for a strong player), such a recruiting quality-of-class translates to about 32 strong contributors for a roster.

Some of the 3 star players might be the ones to make it as the "major 8" from a specific class, but statistically most will be 4 or 5 star players.

Since starters and others play special teams, lets say that with such classes, that we are on pace to have 32 "players" to hold down the 22 starting positions.

Anyway, you may slice and dice the thought a bunch of ways, but my main point is that having 16 out of 24 signees rated 4 or 5 stars gives us more than enough to achieve national championship contention.

And aside from LB, we addressed our needs, and with some development and maturity, LB will be just fine as well.

Your assumptions are flawed. Four years average stay is too generous for the top eight players of each class. Very few will be here five, and the ones that are will probably miss a year to injury. Take Jalen Collins as an example. He wasn't one of the top players, but he still eschewed his fifth year.
