I loved it and will probably come back to it at some point. It won't be Shawshank, but it's not Crash either.

A bit of both. The cinematography and score are more on the artsy side but the story is fairly normal. I really liked it but I like pretentious artsy crap. Adam Sandler fans will hate it.

Genuinely good. Definitely unique.

And it's probably not going to be some instant classic that everyone loves and you see on TV every other weekend (ala Forrest Gump)

But it's certainly not pretentious shite. You should allow for something in the middle haha

Is it like some Watchmen type of movie?

No, Watchmen was filmed in a normal sort of way. Birdman is full of long shots. The camera is more focused on following the characters around.

I'm definitely going to give it a whirl. Goes without saying. It's available to buy but not to rent so I didn't know if I wanted this on my iTunes collection reminding me that I bought a shitty movie that I hate.

Somewhere in the middle, but I'd lean slightly towards pretentious. I have not interest in watching it again either.

just because you don't understand something, that doesn't make it pretentious.

I literally know nothing about the movie, and I also love weird things, but I get a "weird for the sake of being weird" vibe from the preview

Birdman was something I would normally love...great direction, great acting, unique story, cool flourishes, but I didn't get what to make of the ending. Definitely didn't see it coming, but I also didn't think it was earned either.

I just love Keaton so much, and I know he'll flourish in a "weird" movie...did anyone see him in "clear history"

dude is fricking hysterical. "the other guys" was boring for the most part except for Keaton who just has such great acting ability combined with comedic flair

batman was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, so I'll always have a soft spot for Michael Keaton.

but is this something that will still be on TV 10 years, 20 years from now,

Is this seriously your metric for how good a movie is?

I've learned that when it comes to art, a lot of people are turned off by things they don't immediately understand.

no, but it usually indicates that the movie is really good

raiders of the lost ark is on tv all of the time

chariots of fire? nope.

There are some movies that disappear, but for me they're still great...par example, as good as it gets, but I have aspergers and compulsive behaviors so I can relate very much to that movie.

not really, though I think the director is a cultish loon, I own "Lost Highway" and I think it is brilliant. American Psycho, a lot of people just don't get this movie, nor do they get the source material, but I loved it instantly though there was some confusion about the ending.

some movies can be pretentious shite believe it or not. That doesn't mean I have the adam sandler collection at home.

True and disliking something, but especially labeling it pretentious, for that sole reason is annoying.

The inverse is also annoying where people accuse those that dislike the art or think it's pretentious as not understanding it. Often times it's just not an enjoyable piece of art to that person. The worst is when something really is so abstract and incoherent that it is nearly impossible to understand or identify some "theme" but people will act as if it's true meaning is salient and objective. This is a benefit film and literature because there is a story. If that can't be presented with the least bit of coherence, then it's probably a poor piece of art.

I appreciated Birman for the cinematography, acting, etc., but I did not like the story. Just not my cup of tea.

I still haven't seen it because I'm afraid I'll have this opinion.
