Anyone swapped out their shitty 1980s style shower doors for the nice all glass ones?

I see they have them for $500ish at home depot and lowes but have no point of reference as to what constitutes a 'good' frameless shower door vs a 'bad' one.

anyone else done this and have any thoughts?

is your shower standard size? if not, you might have to go custom, which would be around $1k

Call glass company and go custom.

what is the advantage to this over something off the shelf?

I've had the frameless ones from Home Depot/Lowe's and a custom made one from a glass shop. The difference is night and day - but so is the price.

I got a quote off some random website a while back and it seemed really high, what local glass shops do these?

Should have designed the shower, where a door is not needed...

Get the glass that becomes opaque or clear when you clap your hands.

CAD, are you using a shower insert? My one BIGGEST regret in our house when we built was not opting for a walk-in shower without need for a door at all.

I could care less about body sprays and hand showers and sh!t like that. But I would love more room to operate in the shower area and not have another door to open up into the bathroom space from a practical standpoint.

I've talked to several people who could rip mine out and tile it in to my liking, and they're talking about the cost for material+labor at around what you're talking about for a frameless shower door.

You may seriously want to consider this.

I sell shower doors in Nashville. Depending on specifics, you're typical setup runs anywhere from $45-65/sq ft for a ballpark number for a custom frameless system.

Such an attention whore. We get it, you're getting a new house. Cool.

This X 1,000,000

Tearing out my shower/tub in the master bath and replacing with a walk in shower with multiple shower heads, no glass, and no door is one of the last things for me to do on my house remodel. I can't wait to never squeegee another shower.

Those are usually dark and take up a ton of room. Also, ventilation issues.
