I think that he would be an upgrade at center and guard, despite what many thought of him before he left for the Bears for a vet min deal.

I'll take DLP back over what we have right now easily. The fact is, like many said changing all 3 interior lineman would be a crazy idea, hell changing two guards would be a tough task. I think changing one guard this year (Bye Evans) and a center (DLP or 2nd/3rd rounder) would be sufficient. It is too much of a change and waste of 6mil in dead money of 9.6mil in cap hit to cut Grubbs. It'd cost 3.6mil just to get another average guard into the system and he would be brand new with no rapport with our LT.

Those two will have very different roles in the NFL. Beasley is a pure 3-4 Jack, rushing the passer more often than not. Thompson is more of a 4-3 OLB or 3-4 Mike that does a bit of everything and is more likely to drop back in coverage (which we need more than an edge rusher, assuming Junior plays most of the season).

All of this. They're not really comparable IMO (except for who you'd rather have). I'd much rather have Shaq, and I'd be excited if we took him.

And to get more on topic, at this point, I really don't think either one (or at least Scherff) falls to 13. So I feel like, while good, this discussion is sorta moot.

Another (hopeful) possibility is that an upgrade at center will have a significant enough effect on the rest of the OL that we can ease some new guards in over the next few years.

I'd rather the kid Irving from Florida State than Dismukes.

I don't think there is much to Dismukes.

also I think C Rodney Hudson from the Chiefs is a free agent. Could be a potential target... who knows?

I agree about not shuffling the lineup too much.

Collins looked to be in better shape than any other South O-lineman at the Senior Bowl.

saw him take some reps at guard during the Thursday practice too.

I agree on Dismukes. I'd pass on him in the 2nd round.

Neither is projected to be a good LT in the NFL, so I could see either being there.

Erving is unlikely to be there for us. Probably a late 1st or early 2nd round pick. He could have gone early 2nd last year. If we love him and it takes a 4th to move from 44 to ~35 to get him, I'd be down.

yeah, apparently he is a versatile player. I could see someone like Jacksonville picking him up early in the 2nd round.

their O-line needs a lot of help. Or maybe they'll go with someone they coached at the Senior Bowl. They picked a handful of guys in the draft who played in that game. They coached the South team again this year.

also, I've seen where some have complained about how since Kromer has left the O-line has looked worse. I don't know if I agree with that.

guys get older and guys get hurt every year. Seems like injuries are starting to take a toll on Evans.

the tackles have played well lately except Bryce Harris. He was shaky as frick when Strief got hurt against the 49ers in 2012. Kromer was still here and he wasn't a good backup then either.

Hard pick between the two. I think both will start their careers at guard for any team. Collins has longer arms which will translate better if/when he moves from guard to tackle. Although Scherff has shorter than ideal arms, I think he is stronger than Collins. Both block angry. I think Collins fits better in the "starts at guard and moves to tackle" mold while Scherff IMO will probably be a better guard and stay primarily at guard. So to answer the question I would go with Collins because he fits a need now and later, but I am still high on Scherff because we need a guard today and I think he is a better guard prospect.

This. And it's why I want Scherff. This team builds their line from the inside out allowing Brees to climb the pocket. We are set with Armstead at LT and Strief is better than everyone gives him credit for. I think we need great guard to put on the same side as Armstead to have one side locked up for the foreseeable future

Scares me when talking about offensive lineman. Usually means a shortened career and injuries.

Why dont you guys read the thread before posting? I and everyone else are talking about both at guard. No one is talking about drafting a tackle.

I was referring to the guy I responded to wanting to get Collins because he could be moved to Tackle eventually. and that he projected better at that spot.

I have read the thread.

I find it funny that most oppose getting 3 new interior lineman.
Two is fine and dandy but three? Hell no.

So even if the mythical 3rd lineman(draft or FA) is better than our 3rd inside lineman that we keep we don't do it cause we will be worse off via changing all three than if we just change two.

Ok I got it but I disagree. If the staff believes they can improve all three spots then pull the trigger.
The three we have now gave up the 2nd most pressures since CSP has been here and we saw the results.

I don't care what they do as long as the goal is to drastically improve the performance of our guards and center.

Im with ya, but maybe keep one of Grubbs or Evans at a cut rate to help develop the new guy
