Can you do another thread with Vic Beasley and Shaq Thompson?
I was planning on doing a couple more for LBs and Corners. Figured I would do the next one tomorrow to not flood the 1st page

Does anybody think either guard is worth another year with their price tags?
I don't.

I am of the opinion we need an entire overhaul of the interior OL
You really can't replace three guys along the OL in one offseason and expect success. Continuity helping those 5 guys know what their responsibilities are/what the others are doing is really important. We're going to need at least a new center, and probably a new guard. Replacing all three would be pretty rough. I would dump Evans before Grubbs. My ideal scenario is getting Scherff in round one, get one of Erving/Dismukes/Grasu in rounds 2 or 3, and make a solid #2 CB our main FA pickup. A revamped OL could significantly improve our offense and legit CB2 + Byrd coming back would help our DL return to 2013 form.

It would be a shame if the Britney spears thread didn't stay on the first page for at least 3 weeks.

Those two will have very different roles in the NFL. Beasley is a pure 3-4 Jack, rushing the passer more often than not. Thompson is more of a 4-3 OLB or 3-4 Mike that does a bit of everything and is more likely to drop back in coverage (which we need more than an edge rusher, assuming Junior plays most of the season).

Would you rather a complete overhaul? or just 1 guard. Finding a center is a must after the horrid experience of Goodwin.
Erving/Dismukes/Grasu, Iupati, and Scherff/Collins
or
Erving/Dismukes/Grasu, Evans/Grubbs, and Scherff/Collins

I concur.

It would save us more money but I don't think we will just let Evans walk unless we pick a stud in FA like Iupati. We could just restructure his contract and let him help train the new guy coming in.

I'm down!

While I'd love Lupati...I agree FA corner is more important. I'd rather spend more money to ensure we have 2 lockdown guys.

Iupati is a good bit better than either of our current guards, but a capable #2 CB will make a huge difference for us and cost half as much as Iupati. I trust our team when it comes to drafting OL, so draft a center and a young guard this season, then replace the other next offseason if need be.

I asked this awile ago and no one responded.
Does anyone think Lelito can get better in the offseason and fill the starting spot at center?

Rotoworld posting some good numbers on Jahri:
He played the second half of the season with the injury. There is no excuse for the first half. He wasn't good in 2013 either. It's time to move on. People think Brees is falling off. I'd bet that if you return in the interior OL to somewhere close to what they were in 09-11, coupled with maybe the best OT duo he has ever had, he and the offense will explode.
quote:
Saints RG Jahri Evans underwent wrist surgery to repair a torn TFCC after the season.
Evans played through the tear the second half of the season, and his play was noticeably hampered by the injury. Evans gave up a league-worst 34 hurries as a pass protector among guards and was Pro Football Focus' second-worst pass-blocking guard in 2014. He was strong in the run game, however. Due $7.3 million in salary and bonuses with the Saints in a bad spot against the salary cap, Evans is a strong candidate for release or contract restructure this offseason.

I've seen people praising him, but I haven't seen anything from Lelito to indicate that he's anything more than a solid backup to all three interior OL positions (which isn't a bad thing to have). Goodwin and Evans were both really bad last year and he couldn't beat either of them out.

This worried me too. He seemed to play pretty well when called on to fill in for Goody though. Just don't know if he could step into a starting position.

His lack of playing time made me feel like it was more of going with vets than the new guy.

I think he would be considered average at best as a starter. I'd like to draft a C and hope we get a good one. I think he's great to have on the team...I'm comfortable when he comes in as a backup. He's a solid patchwork guy on the interior line. Guys like him always have a roster spot. Bryce Harris won't have one if he keeps playing like he did this year.

Collins
Can step in immediately for whichever G we cut and then move him to RT where he's most suited after Strief is done. We have bookends for the next 10 years

Heres what PFF had to say about it. How the hell we got ranked as high as 11&12 I have no idea, but whoever wrote the review is spot on.
October Review:
12. New Orleans Saints
PB: 26th, RB: 5th, PEN: 6th
Stud: The team has struggled up the gut with pressure, but has done a much better job on the edges. It’s gone unnoticed but second year tackle Terron Armstead is getting better.
Dud: For a long time Jahri Evans has been very good. But he’s had a couple of issues this year in pass protection, chiefly against Gerald McCoy who was really too good for him. Is this aspect of his game on the wane?
Summary: Much better going forward than going back, they’re betting at teeing off on defenders than trying to hold them in check. The problem has been that most of the pressure has come up the middle and that is making life harder than it needs to be for Drew Brees.
January Review:
11. New Orleans Saints (11th)
Pass Blocking Ranking: 20th, Run Blocking Ranking: 9th, Penalties Ranking: 1st
Stud: No denying that Zach Strief is among the most reliable right tackles in the league and he proved it again with another solid season.
Dud: He was only forced to play 393 snaps, but it might spell the end for Bryce Harris (-17.5) who really struggled, particularly at home against Atlanta which contributed to the end of the Saints’ season.
Breakdown: The pass blocking is a big concern, especially with “Pro Bowl” Jahri Evans getting rag dolled more this year then it felt like he had in his entire career before it. For a line that has consistently been one of the best, it just didn’t stand out as it has previously.

I think Collins is at least 320lbs as well. Unless he's a very fluffy 308lbs.
Between the two, I go with Collins. Longer arms. Can keep big guys from getting into his chest. He also blocks a helluva lot meaner. Dude blocks like he doesn't want you to ever feel joy or happiness in your life when he's finished.

Another (hopeful) possibility is that an upgrade at center will have a significant enough effect on the rest of the OL that we can ease some new guards in over the next few years. I think Evans is done (and Grubbs is overpaid but still solid), but he may prove serviceable with a good center. It happened when we replaced Kreutz's worthless arse with DLP. I would actually like to bring DLP back. I think that he would be an upgrade at center and guard, despite what many thought of him before he left for the Bears for a vet min deal.
