Can we talk about Halcon Resources (Symbol: HK)?

So...currently sitting at $1.42.
debt out this world, and could be a takeover target at this price?
other than that, would this be too risky a play?

Do we know what the debt is for?

they have 300,000 acres in the Tuscaloosa shale area..a play that was barely, if at all, profitable at 100 dollar oil. Would another company buy that? I don't know but I'd guess no..

Another company wouldn't buy HK for their TMS acreage. It would be for their reservation acreage in the Bakken and their El Halcon stuff in Texas.

Goodrich Petroleum would if they could.

I'd be surprised if Halcon and Goodrich can survive. Goodrich is in especially bad shape after they bet the company on the TMS a while back. Floyd Wilson had a couple very fortunate moves with Petrohawk that didn't materialize with Halcon.

Yeah.. Seems if A company wanted to buy Bakken or eagle ford assets they could choose from the thousand companies who don't have Tuscaloosa Shale acreage.

They wish...they have crappy acreage, no one wants their junk.

Yes. More likely to go bankrupt and be sold off in pieces.

It is certainly risky.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Wouldnt touch it it, prices stay as is in six months there will be a bundle of smaller companies that overpaid for marginal acreage in those two play trying to offload it and they wont have the extra baggage of the TMS debt.

I'm waiting until borrowing bases are adjusted in July/Aug before I even consider pulling the trigger on any of the independents. HK is fairly well hedged with 80% of their 2015 production hedged at close to 90 a barrel (according to a somewhat old investor presentation from August), so that coupled with reducing capex should allow them to de-lever some. If you assume that their undeveloped positions are worthless at $50 oil the question becomes what's the value of their PDP?
