Burgers come with cheeses, lettuce, bread, tomatoes, etc. They share a lot of the same ingredients.

And the nice to-go container that can be used as Tupperware afterward.

IDK, in my experience a decent lunch sandwich can be had for $9. However, a decent lunch salad will run about $10-12. How much do you pay for your salads?

Ah. That makes sense.

My experience is a little odd. My firm has its own in-house cafeteria. When I get the hot lunches or a sandwich, it's generally around $9. When I get a salad, you pay by weight, and it normally comes out to around $6.

it certainly seems there's an insane markup; however, I can't find any statistical evidence of such.

Salads used to be cheaper, that's why I ate them in college. Somewhere in the past 10 years everyone started eating 5,000 calorie salads and the $$$ came with them.

It takes more time to prepare a salad than a sandwich at a place like Chick-Fil-A. They basically raise the price to discourage too many people from ordering them. It's just not feasible to make that many.

because salads are produce-based and procuce is labor intensive to grow, harvest and store...you can slap ground beef in a freezer and keep it for a year if you want, but lettuce, etc. has to come from the field to your mouth within several days or it goes to the trash...

that makes some sense. It's still baffling that produce costs more than beef.
