Looking back on past classes, I realized just how weak the 2012 class was compared to most others. Only 6-7 had meaningful playing time and largely just for this past season while filling in for early draftees. LSU only signed ~4 of the state's top 10, and didn't even offer a few. Does anybody remember if we pursued and missed major oos recruits, or was this just a result of a weak overall in-state class where we lost out on the few true stars?

I actually think that class was really underrated...

Kwon, Jalen Mills, Vadal, Dural, Dillon Gordon, Hawkins, Danielle Hunter, Lamar Louis, Dwayne Thomas, Debo. Corey Thompson was hurt this past year but played a lot as a freshman. Kheen and Reid Ferguson were in here as well. Fehoka was a part of that class as well.

So thats like 10+starters... Not sure where you got just 6-7 guys with meaningful playing time. And Debo has had a lot of PT and will be starting this year most likely.

Compare that to the studs in the 2011 and 2014 classes and those players you mentioned aren't even close.

Was the 2013 class that much better? Beckwith is the only one I can think of who off the top.

Ok....

Mills was a 3 year starter. Kwon played a lot his freshman year, broke his ankle while having a great game vs UF. Was pretty much a 2 1/2year starter.Hunter, Vadal, and Gordon were 2 year starters. Dural was the WR3 behind OBJ and Jarvis. Debo and LL saw a lot of PT as underclassmen. Hawkins was RS, but developed into a STUD OT.

2011 was 1 of the best classes we've had and was like 6th in the nation. 2012 was like 18th in the nation. And a lot of guys in that 2011 class did very little to nothing.

And 2014 was an amazing class and still too soon to judge them.

We signed 1 defensive lineman in that class and it killed us when the 2013 season came around.

There has been a stretch classes that appear to have been full of homeruns or strike outs. JMO, some coaches have not been pulling their weight or the staff was being blinded looking for another TM7 type 'diamond in the rough'.

3 freshmen AA and significant playing time by a few others. This class will go down as the GOAT.

Yeah it was a very weak class. I only just started following recruiting in December 2012 for the 2013 class, but I've looked over that class and over the state. Louisiana didn't produce much that year.

Granted we do have a 3 star gem in Hawkins but he was very raw with immense potential.

First let's not talk of long snappers and punters when we are discussing the relevance of a class. Sure they are much needed pieces, but really? Second, the level of these players pails in comparison to the players we usually have. Nearly all of these guys would be bit players if they came before the 09 class.

Pretty much we got some specialists, Kwon, Thomas, Vadal, Hawkins, Hunter and Mills. Everybody else has been pretty meh or what you would expect so far. We have zero playmakers though. We don't have any game changers from this group. Of course their fourth year hasn't happened yet.

09 - Randle, Sam, Minter, Mingo, Brockers, Faulk, Claiborne, Logan

10 - Reid, Mathieu, Wing

11 - L. Collins, Landry, Mett, Beckham, Turner, Hill (this is the class I always count him towards)

12 - I'll go Vadal and Kwon, but look at the difference in effectiveness from the other classes.

Sure we have decent players, but we are far off from where we were just a few short years ago, and it is the exact reason why we look so mediocre as a team right now.We got three QBs in 2011 but zero in 2012, so we have to play a guy like Jennings. This is one of the main problems with that class aside from zero playmakers. We have a bunch of bit players. No impact guys.

Yep we missed on Landon Collins, Denzell Devall, and Toshiro Davis, who were the three best players in the state.

Collins is the best DB entering the NFL draft. Devall starts for Bama. Davis moved down to DE at Texas and plays a lot, should start this year now that Cedric Reed is moving on.
