Should I go for airline miles or chase reward points?

Currently I have a Chase Freedom and Sapphire card with a combined 100k points. I only fly a couple times a year so I have not gotten an airline miles card. Is it still worthy my while or just keep up with the Chase cards? Not sure if this matters, most of my purchases on these cards are done for work. I am reimbursed making them free points.

$89 a year on my Sapphire. I keep that one because it doesn't have any foreign transaction fees.

The transfer feature on points is what makes the sapphire worth it. Keep the sapphire and just transfer when you want to book.

Baggage fees if you check bags would pay for any airline card you got if you wanted to

Is it a Sapphire or a Sapphire Preferred? SP is a good card to have. You can transfer points from your Freedom to it and you can transfer points out to partners.

As stated, you get first bag checked free on the airline cards which is a nice little perk to have.

IMO, CSP is the best card to have right now. As others have said, the point transfer feature is the best you can get.

I prefer the American Express points because they offer points transfer bonuses but CSP is a damned good points card.

It is the Preferred card. I have the Freedom because I took advantage of the points bonus and transferred it all to the SP. Didn't close it out to help my debt to credit ratio. I don't fly enough for baggage fees to bother me really. I'll want to do a flight to Australia at some point and wanted the best chance to upgrade to first class.

Keep the Freedom. It has nice quarterly bonuses and it is a no fee card. It will eventually strengthen your AAoA.

If you want to do Australia you should choose the airlines now and target points/miles that will get you there.

I fly 3-5 times a year on my own dime. You think that is enough to upgrade if I target an airline?

Absolutely. If you check baggage that alone can pay for the fee for the card.

Don't worry about miles you earn by flying. It's all about the signup bonuses. There are offers out there now for most airlines that give 50k miles as an incentive. Then target your spending to fill in miles to hit your goal.
