there's a very successful HS coach who never punts, always goes for 2, and always kicks onside kicks.

And I bet he has really, really good players, compared to his opponents.

It's not that crazy of an idea, there's a very successful HS coach who never punts, always goes for 2, and always kicks onside kicks. Statistically, it is a sound strategy, since you are maximizing your win probability.

You wonder? I feel like it's already pretty well established.

See Crutchfield at St. Aug vs. him at S. Plaq.

Nah, I'm sure the secret to his success is that he never punts.

Threads like this one really make the fictitious number of NCs bama claims that much funnier.

That doesn't mean when he goes for it on 4th that he throws the ball 50 yards down the field.

There are plenty of teams that do this. I see it all the time. The coaches are 12-year olds in online Madden

you can't do it every time, but if you are at the other team's 40 and you have a guy with an arm and a couple of WRs worth spit, why not?
I hate when the punt goes into the end zone and the punting team gets 19 yards out of it.

I read about him a few years ago. its not true that he NEVER punts. if he is on his own 9, he punts.

but he goes for it a lot in 4th down and long situations where a traditional SEC coach in the 1950's would have punted on 3rd down rather than be forced into a risky play (and a play where his QB could be injured/sacked).

. he has his guys practice insides kicks a lot too.
