I'm always fascinated by the discrepancy some of these sites have with prospects

Chidi is a 5*, ranked #22 overall by 247.

He's ranked the 38th best OFFENSIVE TACKLE by Rivals.

How can two sites be this opposite on their views for a player? It blows my mind.

there really isn't a lot of film on him. He's only been playing football for like a year.

I will quote you Frank Wilson from about 3 years ago...almost a verbatim quote. When asked about some of LSU signees not being that highly rated by the services, he said:

"Yeah, I never have understood where they come up with these ratings. I have talked to some of their coaches. They never came to see the guy play, never saw him at a camp, never got video of him, yet they can rate him."

I just came to the board to post this exact point. Just to confuse things even further, Scout and ESPN have him right in between, as a 4-star and No. 6/7 at his position. He is in the Top 100 in ESPN's and Scout's rankings.

Farrell's mind of mike article details COVs discepency a little. Raw and lack of experience. He did perform well at the all star practices so its not talent. Rivals is a joke anyway. Farrell controls everything there and I'd bet if the southeast/FL/GA analysts over there were asked outside of his earahot , they'd sing a different tune. The kids potential is top 100 easy.

I was just wondering this same thing. Not just with Chidi though.

Donte Jackson 247: 10 Comp: 56
Arden Key 247: 37 Comp: 82
Derrick Dillon 247: 91 Comp: 169
Chidi Valentine-Okeke 247: 22 Comp: 102
Justin Reid 247: 188 Comp: 373

The most important thing to remember: For recruiting sites the goal is to drive clicks and revenue. For coaching staffs the goal is to win games.

No way to truly compare an OT in California to an OT in Georgia. Coaches have to evaluate how good a player is and offset that with how likely they are to get that player to commit.

In the end, if the coaching staff wants a recruit, we should want him.

And we all know if he committed to Alabama he would shoot up the rankings.

Shows how much of a shite show all of this is. Yet it is fun as frick to follow. I always use our players highest rating personally, why not?

You really would expect him to at least be a 4* on Rivals given that he played in the Army AA Bowl.

These sites say they ultimately grade players based on future potential. And he's got tons of it. So it really is surprising to see him as a 3* on Rivals.

38th ranked OT's don't play in the Army or UA All American bowls.

Rivals blew it on this one. Plain and simple.

It is a little unnerving. Really, though, 247sports is the only site anyone should use.

recruiting sites kidna suck as a whole. That is why the Composite rating is sort of a decent indicator.

Would be better if they threw out outlier ratings.

Composite is great unless you get one service that goes full retard on the evaluation. Like Rivals on Chidi.

Or have offers from LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, FSU, Georgia, South Carolina, and Miami.
