So I work out every night around 10 at my local gym.

Since new years there has been a mid 20's guy that works out about the same time. He makes ridiculous noises while lifting. It sounds like wild animals engaging in intercourse. He's so loud I hear him even with my headphones in. What makes it even worse is he isn't lifting a ridiculous amount of weight. Nothing an average gym goer can't do.

Usually it is just me and him. Anyone have any ideas on how to approach him? Besides the normal, "Hey man, could you cut out all the noise."

Ask him if he wants to go to a nearby coffee shop and address the issue with him there

Well there's 90% chance you won't have to deal with this in March because at least one of you will no longer be going to the gym.

Grunting helps

when lifting heavy shite so deal with it.

If im deadlifting 400+ pounds or arse to grass squating. Damn right i'll grunt and if someone decides to say something to me. I'll tell them now your turn to lift this shite.

Even if he isn't lifting what you consider heavy. It might be heavy to him, that and some lifts/exercises will force you to make noises from breathing and exerting energy. Especially explosive movements.

Why do folks care, tbh?

When I go to the gym, I've got my headphones on and I'm in my own little world. DGAF what sounds anyone else is making.

Tell him that you've been watching him for a few weeks and that you were hoping the 2 of you could go cuddle somewhere. It won't stop the noise but you'll never see him there at 10pm with you ever again.

I encountered the worst noise just yesterday at the gym. fricking guy with his Beats headphones whistling loud and high pitched as shite. Could hear him across the gym and when he's close up he was still just whistling really loudly.

That's worse than grunting.

We have a guy at the gym that's bat shite crazy. He's maybe 160lbs soaking wet. He will stand close to the mirror doing whatever it is he does so he can see himself really good. He will then slam down his 30lb dumb bells, I don't mean drop, but physically slam them down. After this he will usually scream while raising his hands up in the air to flex, then start dancing.
I swear, I can't make this shite up. Not bobbing his head to the song he's listening to, but full on dancing.
This happens after each set. Ironically, I never see anyone talking to him.

As for me, the only sounds I make is farting while doing squats and abs. I was doing abs the other day and it sounded like a blew a hand grenade out of my arse. I just stopped and laughed.

yessir

While not 400+ pounds, last Sunday I hit 365 on deadlift. You better believe I was being loud while getting that weight up. Now it wasn't a super loud scream, but one long, loud grunt.

I understand what the OP is talking about though. There's a guy that goes to one of the gyms I frequent that makes a ton of noise unnecessarily. Doing pullups? He's grunt really loudly and when he breathes out he hisses really loudly. Same thing with bench presses or anything, really. It seems like he makes noise just to make noise and grab attention. He's not even big.

The grunts and noises don't bother me as much as the strong cologne some guys wear for some reason.

there is this supreme douche liberal/rural/hipster type who nances around the gym doing silly exercises and makes the most ridiculous noises when he's doing his one and only set of weights for an hour long workout...fricking ridiculous.
