Variety article
Yeesh. I will say, this looks fricking horrible.

The Sundance Film Festival isn’t a typical launchpad for studio blockbusters, but Warner Bros. surprised theater-goers on Tuesday night by unveiling the Wachowski siblings’ “Jupiter Ascending” at a “secret screening.”
...
Despite the hype of a secret screening, clusters of seats inside the 300-person venue remained empty, and a handful of patrons walked out of the two-hour-plus space epic starring Mila Kunis as a princess and Channing Tatum as an intergalactic soldier tasked with rescuing her.
...
“I hated it,” said one of the festival’s volunteers, who asked not to be identified for fear of irking Sundance. “It’s just ridiculous.”
Her husband was more forgiving. “It’s a combination of a whole bunch of things wrapped into one,” he said.
Neville Kiser, a screenwriter, thought the movie was hurt by the fact that it was debuting at a venue for highbrow films. “I actually liked it,” Kiser said. “But the Sundance context is weird. There were so many people in the audience scoffing and sneering. They are forgetting they are watching a movie targeted primarily to teenage boys. I’m sure those 15-year-old boys, and hopefully girls, will like it.”
The film’s co-directors and stars were not in attendance. One industry expert speculated that the discombobulated story would mean that Warner Bros., which spent $175 million on the film, would lose a significant chunk of money.

It looks like a made-for-TV movie with slightly better special effects. It will bomb big time.

175 million? That's insane

all I know is I have no idea what its about based on the previews.
something about Mila Kunis being important for stopping some bad people?

So Sundance is like the IRL version of the M/TV board on TD.

Shocker. It looks fricking awful.

Anyone at Sundance pretending to enjoy a big money sci-fi blockbuster would lose their indie street-cred.
It's like showing Frances Ha at Comic Con and wondering why the theater is half-empty.
This movie may suck, but "Sundance hates it" is far from a reliable litmus test.

Looks like a popcorn flick, could give a shite what the Sundancers think.

Stole my line.

To be fair, it didn't say anyone walked out in the story. Just stated that if you're more likely into something like The Station Agent, this probably isn't for you.

Matrix sequels were seen as shite by the masses, Speed Racer tanked b/c parents didnt want to give their kids epileptic seizures, (although I actually liked it for what it was), and Cloud Atlas failed financially (which shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone who actually read the book b/c how the frick you gonna splain dat to Joe Blow movie man?)

I find it weird that Channing Tatum isn't the main focus of the advertisements. One of the early trailer or commercials I saw focused on Sean Bean and showed a second or 2 of Tatum. If the movie is intended for teenagers, I figured he would be the one you would promote.

It probably will suck but iron man and transformers type movies would have gotten similar responses at a film festival like that.
It's an action flick. Not a movie ment to win awards

Matrix sequels were seen as shite by the masses,
I don't know anyone who legitimately liked those movies.

It was supposed to be a summer blockbuster then they moved it back to February. That says enough for me.

There's suspicion out there that they stole the original script from someone else. That would explain why the 2nd and 3rd ones sucked so badly. The original wasn't from their imaginations so they didn't know what to do next.

so true. And the TD music board is just as bad - if not worse.

Problem is it doesn't even look like a good popcorn flick.
