Dang Cox Cable guy kept me from fully cutting the cord.

Called to cut my cox phone and cable. Bill was about $180. Only person who uses the phone is my mother calling.

I don't turn the cable box on from February until September. So I figured it was time to see if I could live without it.

My internet bill was going to go up higher than if I had basic and internet.

So I kept basic and then he talked me into keeping the phone for 10 bucks.

Still dropped the bill from $180 to $83.

Semi-cord cut and maybe in a year, I'll go full.

That was a bit of a sad / liberating feeling dropping off that box and remote. Looks like that is the last time I head over to Cox Cable.

I've really only kept Cox for ESPN but I'll be able to grab that online soon.

Next year, I'll cut the basic and the low end phone line. Damn phone annoys me because dropping down to $10 bucks I no longer have caller ID so I can't answer the damn thing now!

I get too many Research / Poll calls.

Mom gets 1 more year to learn to call my cell.

we'll call that a win for now, until the promotional period expires and they start going up again.

12 months.

At the end of which I will probably just finally sever all ties other than internet.

Won't ever cancel the internet unless Google moves into the area.

I'm using a Roku 3, with cox internet (50 down/10 up). All TVs are plugged into the wall for the "unfiltered" channels that come over the cable.

The main thing I use on the Roku is the Plex app. I also have the unsupported App store within plex which I used to download G2G.FM, ClickPlay, and iShows. With those 3 apps within plex I have access to any decent show that comes on HBO, Starz, Showtime, etc plus any other extended cable show worth watching.

UAS is currently unavailable but they are working on bringing it back up shortly.

That's what they want you to believe. Tried same thing with me. I called back and said I found another internet provider as well and wanted to cancel all. Then all of sudden they come back with, "well let me see what I can offer you".

Ended up reducing my internet to the promotional price of $35.

I officially cut the cord today. We have a couple of Apple TVs, Xbox One, and a PS4 to watch all content one.

We subscribed to Netflix and Hulu plus and now pay $17/ month instead of $105. I have an HD antenna in the attic for local channels and will borrow a login for Watch ESPN for football and baseball.

Today is a good day.

I'm calling directv today to officially cut.

HD antennas in attic: Fox (720p) CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS (1080p)

HTPC in living room running Kodi; Watch ESPN

Will be adding either another HTPC or the like in the bedroom before long.

Eta: also adding an apple router and my own modem today to boost speeds and negate the rental from the Internet people

FREEEEEDOOOOOOM!

Just curious on thoughts on roku vs fire. Does roku allow you to out kodi on it?

I don't think you can put kodi on a roku, from what I understand the firestick/tv is the only one that you can easily load kodi on. Kodi can be loaded on the apple tv versions 1&2 but not as easily.

If you see tvmc referenced, it is a build of kodi that has a bunch of the channels already installed, which saves you a lot of time.

Here is a video on how to install kodi/tvmc on a firestick/tv.

Instead of downloading the kodi gotham.apk file, get the tvmc-gotham.apk file here.

This is a pretty good forum to check out for anyone cutting the cord. TVMC page It has a bunch of add on channels for kodi.

The fires tv/stick is the easiest one to side load Kodi. The AppleTV isn't that hard to do, but the problem I have with it is when you install Firecore to jailbreak it, it removes all the recent App updates that are normally on AppleTV.

something worth mentioning if you're installing this on an apple TV2...the gotham version was very buggy and troublesome for the ATV2, and that TVMC build is based in gotham. when i had the ATV2, i upgraded from frodo to gotham, and HD movies wouldn't play. i downgraded back to frodo and used it until the new version, helix, came out. frodo and helix both work much better than gotham.

but on the fire stick and box, it doesn't seem to matter.
