A silent commit lets the recruit get the attention of NSD and allows the coaches to focus more on other positions of need knowing that they have what they need filled and not end up having to take filler players on NSD. That is, if the silent commits stay true to their word

University of Florida has had more silent commits in the past 10 years than any school in the country and they may be hitting on about a quarter of them. Their insiders have that market cornered and their fans fall for it hook line and sinker every year

Truly is gator bait.

Most of the time it is because they want to secure a spot for themselves, yet string the fans along for as long as they can and build up the hype and excitement of their announcement.

So that they can stand up proudly on NSD and state in front of god, family, friends and the cameras:

"Next ye-uh, I am going to take my talents to the University of LSU. Coach Mile is like family."

You do realize he was trolling the "University of Alabama" who thought he was picking them. By saying "University" first they thought he was in the bag.

Pretty sure he just slipped up.

A big time basketball recruit actually said Kentucky the other day when he meant Kansas.
