Do clear/green beer bottles really cut the life of beer that much?

Assuming they are packed in a box that is dark then into your fridge which is always dark. And a case of beer in my house never lasts longer than a coupel weeks.

Seems like a dumb thing to worry about.

It is as long as the beer doesn't sit in the light in the store for weeks or months on end.

There's a reason why most green or clear bottle beers taste skunky

It's sunlight that turns a beer skunky, and it doesn't take very much. Years ago when I lived in Pittsburgh Rolling Rock in the little green pony bottles was my beer of choice. I came to work one Monday complaining to my boss about the nasty beer I had encountered over the weekend. Turned out his wife's family owned the brewery and they spent almost every weekend in Latrobe. From that point on I enjoyed a free case of Rolling Rock waiting on my desk every Monday morning. To this day I still drink only RR on those rare occasions when I drink beer.
