I'm 20 years old, heard the whole thing for the first time last night and I'm in love with it. Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine are an amazing rhythm/lead guitar duo. Their jazzy style and use of counter-melodies hooked me on the first listen. Verlaine's voice might put some people off (Ian Curtis was a much better vocalist for the post/art punk style imo) but it's not terrible, at least to me It's not. Venus, Marquee Moon, and Elevation are my favorite tracks. Curious to hear the MB's thoughts on it.

I didn't even know he was in that band. What don't you like about MM?

Your entitled to your opinion, I won't start an argument, just asking.

Awesome album. One of the best guitar rock albums of all-time. Venus and Marquee Moon are the standouts, although the whole album kills.

My thread from when I finally decided to listen,

Days from Adventure remains my favorite song. Lloyd mentions it in one of those interviews.

Love that album. First heard it a few years back on Sirius Classic College.

He never recorded with them. He was not a musician really. He was an attitude.

Just read the wiki

Sounded like he was more focused on stage presence rather than improving his technique with the rest of the band. Nothing wrong with that, but it sounded like that separation was for the best.

I really loved it when I first heard it, and I was 20 as well. As I've gotten older, I still like it, but I think it's a tad overrated. Wish they'd had a few more releases so I could figure out if they were hit-and-miss or just got lucky with that first record.

Actually like Verlaine's solo albums better, even the TV reunion album. Most of the songs on MM don't move me; bad poetry instead of good songs.
