You leave your door unlocked somewhere near DC? I've never left my door unlocked on purpose.

My SO is from way up north. I've been several times, but the weather has been absolutely gorgeous the first time, then I went when it snowed but it was only like 30 degrees out.

I have no idea what it's like when it's close to 0 degrees up there, but I do want to see what it's like because I love the north. I love being in the south, too, but it's really kind of clean and just nice up there.

Dont get me wrong, it's not that everyone in Boston is always dressed to the nines. But I do feel like the majority of the people I see in the city are well dressed most of the time. Now, go outside the city and that changes. But if you go into middle of nowhere Louisiana and people aren't exactly the best dressers either, so I feel like that's universal.

Where in the north? In the south, mid atlantic, upper midwest, new england, etc. is all considered north. To me, there is nothing "clean and nice" about Mid Atlantic cities, Boston, etc. Nor is there anything clean or nice about much of PA, OH cities, etc. That isn't to say there is nothing nice about those areas, I've just never been struck by how clean and nice they are generally.

But, I can see that attaching to parts of NE, the UP, parts of Minnesota and the like.

True, my impressions are based on Southern cities and suburbs. A comparison of college dress would leave the same impression IMO. Something like Ohio State vs. Alabama, it's just a different attitude.

I agree. The overall hygiene is another factor in my opinion.

Yeah. I live in a controlled access condo surrounded by a bunch of yuppies in like the 6th wealthiest county in the country.

Yankees are smelly, unhygienic people who constantly violate your personal space. I would prefer not to live anywhere North of KY and East of IL.

Every place has its plusses and minuses. I've lived in a lot of places, and it seems that whereever I've been, the people who live there can't understand why people would want to live in other areas of the country.

Northerners can't understand why people would put up with the heat and humidity of the deep south. Southerners can't understand why people would want to freeze their asses off up North.

I live in Oregon, right now. Beautiful state. Great beer. Liberal as hell. Ocean is pretty. Ocean is cold. Maybe I can't go swimming in the ocean, like I can in Florida, but I can go wind surfing in the Columbia River Gorge like no place else on earth, and then go skiing in August on Mount Hood.

Take advantage of the things their are to do in the place you live. Don't waste your time wishing you were someplace else.

I loved living in Boston and could see me back up in that area, at least part time, in the future. 4 distinct seasons, snow in the winter, rain throughout the year, summer was never too hot. And it's a great town.

STFU...your state has the most nasally yankee accents in the South. No one in Florida is from FL.

That's my current situation (wife wanted to live on the water for a while) but can't wait to move somewhere more secluded. Cost of housing is outrageous though, particularly if you want to live on the water. Wouldn't say it's that wealthy, not many rich folks here but a lot of upper middle class.

This thread is a perfect example of people thinking universally based on personal preference. One mans paradise is another's hell.

Again, it's not necessarily a genetic thing as much as it is on how they take more pride in their appearance & presenting themselves in public. I went to training for a couple weeks both in Minnesota & Ohio and I couldn't believe all the women who went to work in stretchy elastic pants, messy hair and no make up

Heavy make up is definitely a regional thing.

Southern women are still largely convinced that the only thing they have to offer the world is their looks. God bless southern women.
