Navy Suit Jacket vs Navy Blazer

Is a navy suit jacket an acceptable substitute for a navy blazer?
My suit jacket fits a lot better, the only real difference is it doesn't have brass buttons like my blazer.

I've used a suit jacket as a substitute in a pinch (cause most people wouldn't notice or know the difference), but there definitely is a difference. I've never seen a blazer with buttons that weren't gold. Suit buttons typically are blue on a blue suit.

It is fine generally, but blazers are usually a bit shorter in the cuff and the body, so a suit coat can look sloppier.

Depends on where you are from and where you are going. For example, if you live in Livingston Parish and are going to a formal event in Livingston Parish then it is acceptable.

Suit jacket, blazer, sports coat...they all look the same to me.

This. A suit jacket is not the same as a blazer. It's cut differently.

True, I prefer the cut of the suit jacket. I feel like it's less boxy, at least mine is.
