Pelicans D last night versus Mavs

Mavs are top 10 in the league in Pace at around 97( which for those who don't know means they have around 97 possessions per 48 minutes). last night they were at 88.5. in the losses to the Mavs, they were around 96.
issue was that the Mavs had an ORating at over 120 ( ), so they averaged 120 points per 100 possessions. that's not very good.
the game plan worked…Pels were effective in slowing the Mavs down. But they couldn't stop them in the half court. and that's a bit concerning. lots of missed assignments and awful, awful switching. EG on Dirk at least 4 times that I counted in the 1st half alone. it's one thing to have bad switches happen, but it's another thing for the guys to not get back into position. that's partially on Monty but also on the players to put themselves back in a spot to stop creating these awful match ups.

Monta Ellis always seems to be insane against us.
That is one offensively gifted team, I'll give them that. Rondo, Ellis, Dirk, Parsons, etc.

Monta Ellis and Rondo were both ridiculous in their efficiency. I'm not sure how you stop some of the stuff Ellis was making.

He was on Dirk pretty early in one of the possessions which made no sense. I wondered if maybe they were playing some zone where his assigned area meant having to take on Dirk and we saw it so many times because Carlisle is smarter than Monty.

yeah, Gordon and Tyreke have been pretty bad on D this year but I thought EG was playing good D on when he was on Ellis.
Ellis just couldn't miss.

he's averaging 27 ppg against us this season, shooting at over 57% from the field and over 46% from 3. it's stupid.

not much doubting that but it's one of those fool me once things. monty made no change and it was clear Eric had no chance. but Monty definitely did something right to get their offense slowed down.

Tyreke is beyond bad, he just doesn't try unless his man has the ball.

This. It's so frustrating, he gives 0 fricks on defense.

It's disappointing that the crippled sg gives 100% effort on defense but the athletic guy doesn't

Yep. Ellis was making tough, contested shots look easy. There really wasn't much more that we could have done on him. We had some success with Davis getting a hand in his face, but then Davis was too eager to switch and got burnt late. Some nights guys are just going to go off. The good thing is that Dirk, Monta, and Rondo seemed to be playing well, yet we got the win.

Tyreke, yes, but Gordon has actually been pretty good on D. A lot of his fouls come from fighting through screens, which is something our other guards don't do.

I don't watch a ton of Mavs games, but if Monta plays like that on a regular basis, the Mavs could easily come out of the West.

bullshite. Players have good games all the time. 120 is acceptable. We gave up 3 points on a free throw rebound of freaking Rondo and 3 points on one of the most unacceptable efforts I've ever seen by Ryno. That right there is just 6 absolutely inexcusable points. That alone brings it down to under 114. Now you can start talking about how Mavs are good and Rondo had a great shooting night.
But come on, defense was horrible. Luckily, the offense played out of their minds.

Score 36 points with 4 3s on 16-27 from the field with 1 turnover? Bold prediction.
