i love the inferiority complex among hawks fans

I get it. I do. They have only recently started getting serious coverage after dominating for quite a while. They have also been a very consistent playoff team that doesn't so much damage. The fans can see that this team is the best they've had in a long time. It clearly is. It sucks for people to dismiss you.

But I remember when the Suns were playing beautiful ball and everyone doubted them. Then they weren't quite as dominant during the intensity of a seven game series.

exactly. 4 games separate the 2 from 7 seeds. that's a very tiny window. all teams are capable of winning a series.

agreed. i think it's also a combination of lack of true playoff experience and getting hot at the "right" time. not many teams can sustain the pace they're at.

i will say, though, this board and the pels board will be a shite storm worse than what i'm about to get up here if the Hawks are still on their streak next week or whenever it is the pels play them.

D'Antoni may be one of the most underappreciated people in the league. He basically revolutionized how 90% of the league plays nowadays.

Hell the Spurs resurgence in large part is due to Pop adopting a ton of D'antoni's offensive principles.

Bogut cannot shoot free throws. He is a liability, like Shaq, like Wilt.

Why can't 7 footers take lessons and learn free throw shooting?
Do they have such low concern for their team that they will not learn a basic element of the game?

I will pick the Hawks because Bogut can't make free throws, and there is some chance he won't be able to play in the finals due to some health issue, whether its his knees or something new.
He won't last and even if he does, he will miss key free throws with the game on the line. I would not have him on my team.
He's not worth the 10 or 12 million a year they are paying him.
Nice interior defense and good passer and good rebounder.
His shooting is worse than a 6th grader. If you have not seen him, you will be astonished to see him flip the ball in the general direction of the basket.
He may be the single worst offensive player in the history of the pro game.

A lot of them struggle because their hands are so big. The same reason they can wave the ball around in one hand around the post is what kills their free throw shooting ability. Rondo has huge hands, and also struggles from the FT line. Yao Ming was a beast at free throws. How often does a true center take technical free throws for his team? Never. He's one of the most skilled big men of all-time. It's a shame that he was so injury plagued.

Denver had a lot more talent and an infinitely better home court advantage

their star forward Kenneth Faried, from Morehead State by way of Neward NJ high school, was injured before the first round.
if he was healthy like he was in the world championships, Denver could have won in the first round. he wasn't.

Kevin McHale sprained his ankle in the finals in which the Celtics beat LA/Magic by 152 to 99 or something like that
in the first game. After McHale was limping, LA won the rest of the series by 1 or 2 points, two in OT. Losing a star to health really matters.
Faried barely got on the court in that first round loss. Missed a couple game and was not his 100% self in the games he played some in.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, the playoffs are really the only thing that can justify them to people who are dismissing them right now and that is still far away.

With that said, this is definitely the best Hawks team in a long, long time. You couple that with the fact that we took INDY to 7 games last year and probably should have won the series all without Horford and I think most Hawks fans have a reason to really like there chances this season.

There hasn't even been close to a moment that I can remember this season when a game hinged on Andrew Bogut's free throws. He will not even touch the ball in crunch time for anything other than a dunk or offensive rebound

In short: Ur dumb

Top two teams in the league at this point, and most definitely playing the best basketball this season.

What coach Bud has done with this Hawks team is amazing, and hats off to Danny Ferry as well for helping assemble this deep/talented team. Great ball movement, excellent shooting, and they play smart defensively. He's also utilizing their depth well, and managing minutes. No one on this team is averaging more than 33 minutes per game, which is a policy more coaches need to implement. It's something you see the Spurs do as well, which is one of the keys to their success (And makes sense since Bud is a descendent of the Pop coaching tree). He's resting players on certain nights as well.

However, the Warriors are the better team at this point. They have that same depth, yet more talent. What Steve Kerr has done has been excellent as well. The staff he's assembled in Golden State is all-star quality. They've loosened up the offense a lot from the prior scheme Mark Jackson implemented, and they've improved things on the defensive end from an already solid defensive team. And when you have two players like Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on your team, you have an opportunity to win every night. The only things I worry about with this team are one, the minutes some of the starters are playing. No reason for Kerr to be playing Steph and Klay in 20 point blow outs in the 4th. And two, injuries. Bogut has to be healthy for this team to succeed and Steph (who's had ankle issues in the past) does as well.

Bogut has shot 27 free throws in 29 games...I would choose a different argument.

I used to buy this, but I've stopped in recent years. There are too many big men out there now that are good Free throw shooters. Kawhi Leonard has some absurd hands and he is an 80% free throw shooter.

To what? I can maybe see an argument for comparisons to the 04 Pistons (the Grizzlies have been compared to them in the past), but the comparison to the Spurs is laughable.

Hawks finish with 64-66 wins. Win EC. Lose in NBA finals. I'll take it just for the excitement of it all.

If the 03/04 Pistons took the floor this year at their current age, maybe.
