Is it possible to cut a ball more than 90 degrees? A buddy of mine claims he can cut a ball behind another ball and have it cut more than 90 degrees.

Physics says no way, but he says pool is an exception.

Vince Lauria says it's possible.

Yea, just have to put lots of english on the ball in the direction you're trying to cut. Not easy, but not really hard either once you figure it out.

If it only has 11 lbs. of air, yes.

Otherwise, no.

A shut load of right English could add a few degrees I assume.

This article says cut shots of more than 90 degrees are possible. Go to the section titled "impossible cut shots" and there is even a video that shows these shots can be accomplished.

yes.

if you are talking an angle from the original spot of the cue ball it can be easily (easily as in its easily possible but a hard shot) done.

bottom side english can send the cue in a bend where it is contacting the object ball at a farther distance than a normal straight shot.

i dont know if you could 'throw' a ball like that though. been drinking and i need to be sitting at my table with stick in hand to really get a look at it.

but yes it is possible

Yea I was talking about without English.

He's an idiot. I said I'd give him an hour of trying and if he made it I'd give him a hundred bucks. Not a bet, I'd straight-up give him the money.

He obviously never came close.
