Let's discuss longer range glass

What type of magnifying power do I need if I want to build a ride for longer range distance let's say 200-400 yd avg?
Any brands you'd recommend as well? This would prolly be for a 7mm mag set up

200 yards isn't long range... 400-600 yards is starting to get out there...

200 is longish if that's your closeish
Dang brah just give me some magnifying numbers for 400-500 range. I like to zoom baby

Anything approaching 10x power is more than enough. 500 yards and a 4x isn't difficult for reliable minute-of-torso hits.

At 500 and a 12" target, I zoom mine to 13x. For 200-300 yards, a 3-9x is fine
FWIW, 200 is nowhere near long distance, and 400 is touching the bottom range. When you start getting past 300, a parallax adjustment helps

3-9x, 3-12x, 4-16x all will do fine.
I shot my first long range match with a 3-12x and didn't need more. That was out to 1000.

Where can you do that around here? I know Palo Alto has 600, but who has 1000?

Burris Fullfield E1 Riflescope 4.5-14 42mm
ANyone know anything about this burris scope, seems pretty good for the price!

On the many of the boards that I have frequented that asked the same question but for 1000 yards has recommended just a 10x so I assume that anything above that will work for 1000 yards. Now for 600 yards, I used a 6x (highest setting) on my AR and got decent amount of hits. Any 3-9x will work for under 1000 yards IMO.
I have also noticed that the higher you go in magnification, the more it is unclear.

I thought there was a place around New Orleans that opened recently and they have 800 yards.
The matches are all over the place. Texas, Florida, Oklahoma are the big ones in the south anyway. They are all over the country though.

I wish I had some property to shoot my CZ more. Kind of a PITA running 45 minutes to an hour just to shoot 100 yards and have 20 other yahoos shooting big guns around you. I just like to chill, focus, and concentrate, and my ADD doesn't help one but. The pressure from that 338 yesterday definitely threw me off target more than once

I don't know what the E1 is, but I have a Fullfield II that size on my .17 HMR. I am very impressed with the quality of the scope for the price. Glass is very good, fit and finish is really nice. I think I even got a free spotting scope with it. (spotting scope is a POS though.)

This is my problem. I have a very decent Vortex 2.5 x 10 PST FFP that I would love to get a look through at longer distances.
