I've lived in south louisiana my entire life and I've never used come as a generic term. I say soft drink or just drink. Sometimes soda. My and my families conversations have always been something like.

I'm running in the store any one want a drink?

I grew up calling them cokes.

Still do most of the time unless I put forethought into avoiding it.

Still remember the first time someone offer me 'soda water' - to me that would have been Arm and Hammer dissolved in a glass of water.

Same. Raised in Upstate NY and it was always soda. Don't get the "everything is coke" in the south

I hadn't thought about a "cold drink" in decades! This brought me back to when my memere (not sure how to spell it, but it's what we called our grandmas in south Louisiana) would ask us if we wanted a cold drink. She'd also ask us if we were going to "get down," meaning get out of the car.

In my house, carbonated drinks are always called cokes.

For example:

"Pick up some cokes at the store, okay?"
"What kind?"
"Diet Dr. Pepper."
