I don't like the word "literally"

It's a crutch and a time waster. People typically use it when they can't produce a more exact or imaginative word, and often use it in a sense opposite of what they're truly attempting to express.

I just did a search of this board for instances of its usage and the results were not pretty.

Eehhhh...sometimes those bother me and sometimes not. If someone is about to relate a sensational or hard to believe story or fact I can see why there would be an intro along the lines of "ok you may not think this is true what I'm about to say but I'm telling you it is"

When I hear someone use it I ask them if they are liberal democrats and so far 100% of them have self-identified themselves as liberal democrats.
