Damn, RIP. I'll never forget seeing that guy duck his head when he walked through a door way, cracked me up every time.

I graduated with his son, who was a carbon copy of his Dad.

Much older grad here, never knew the man. Sad to hear, from the stories posted he sounds like a great guy. Prayers for his family, friends and students.

My favorite was if he caught you doing homework in his class he would take it from you and tape it on the wall near the ceiling so you couldn't reach it. RIP to an awesome teacher.

Definitely one of the good ones. One of those "never forget as long as I live moments" was my first day of class with him. He was trying write something on the overhead projector and the ink ran out. He huffed, looked straight up at the class and without looking at the trash can, tossed that sucker right in from across the room. Grabbed a new marker and never missed a beat.

One of my all time favorite teachers. Loved his sense of humor.

Anyone remember the particular nickname he had for you?

He would call me by my older brothers name.

One time when discussing the planets, Sollie asked if any of us had seen Mars or Venus. My response was "No, but I've seen Uranus." He called me out of the class, squated down to my level, looked me in the eye and asked "What in the hell were you thinking?" He sent me back in class and just shook his head as I walked back to my desk.

Definitely my favorite teacher. Seems like so many good ones are leaving too soon. Mrs McCarron and Mr Nola were two of my other favorites.

I loved his "I need a volunteer" charade. It would always result in the same low-enthusiasm volunteer regardless of who's hands went up.

I've always thought of him as the gold standard for classroom control. I never once saw him give punish work or formal discipline, yet there was no cutting up in his class. He was entertaining enough that it wasn't something people thought to do. I guess his size and booming voice helped.

And I don't think he ever wore the same tie twice.

But yeah, talking to him off campus was so different than in class. Just a genuine great guy. Definition of a gentle giant.

This. I remember in class he would always pick on us and say that he wouldn't remember any of us after we get that diploma. Saw him a year later at my job (he was shopping for plants because he was the Horticulture Director at CHS too), and we talked for a while. I brought up that I thought he wouldn't remember anyone after they graduated and we laughed.

Great man, he will be missed.

He graduated high school with my mom. She's 54. He was taken entirely too young.

That is what I loved most about Catholic before the morons like Hightower took control and turned it into what it is today.
---Way to turn a tribute to a great man into an immature rant about others at CHS. Grow up.

This is horrible. Some of my favorite memories from CHS were in his class. And I didn't have that many good memories there

For a quick story, one of my friends in the class wanted to go to the bathroom. He told him no. When he told him he needed to pee really bad, what did he do? He turned the water on in the fosset and put a pan under it so we could hear it drip

What did she teach? I remember that name but not her.

My favorite teacher of all time. Nothing funnier than when he would "go off" on a student. One time he made me go shave, then locked me out of the classroom for the rest of the class. Or how he would make us listen to some aliens show during in class projects, then lecture us on his aliens theories

"Did you guys see that turnip truck just drive by?"
"No?"
"Yeah, I didn't just fall off it!"
in a way only he could say it

Yep.

Or when he would "argue" with other teachers in the hallways in between or during classes. I remember him and Mr. Manning going at it. Good times.

No one was allowed to know what was in his closet. One of the great mysteries of CHS

Classic. I remember I had pink eye and missed a few days. Whenever I returned he quarantined me to the back and kept acting like I was a leper.
