I would not be surprised in the least bit. This is exactly what he does on the court during the game. I am obligated to play him 2 quarters. Most frustrating part is, he is actually kind of good. He has the best shooting form of a 7 year old that I have ever seen and it's effortless for him. The 2 minutes and 30 seconds he has concentrated on this season, he made a 15 ft shot, made a few nice passes, and found ways to get open getting our point guard out of a bind. Problem is he has played about 30 minutes so his act like a dinosaur/play basketball ratio is not very good.

I would have been very clear and respectful.. The game has 2 seconds left and we will not step on the court unless the bucket counts and change of possession has occurred.. I've had similar situations and have taken a team off the court if a redo is to be allowed. I don't mind losing and can accept mistakes but not at the behest of bully coaches, who influence refs at that age

It's my first year coaching and biggest issue was I wasn't 100% sure if that was the league rule.

Youth basketball leagues are similar in structure to that of a local government. Newbs often get shite on, regardless of what knowledge and experience they bring to that league. Make experienced allies if you plan on coaching in the league in the future.

I commend you on coaching this age group. My son is 9 and plays, they break it down by grade (3rd and 4th), and oh my the range of players on his team. From a few that can dribble and understand concepts to 3 that have no clue not to mention zero athletic ability.

I can't see any scenario where in our league a do over would be allowed. Not sure about our coach but I know the parents would have had an issue.

2 are complete players, but neither are top 5 in the league. 1 can shoot and does literally everything I ask of him, but he's 7 so he isn't aggressive yet. 2 are monsters on D, but have no offensive game other than being able to pass and set picks. That's my starting 5. My youngest could be better than anyone on the team, but he's too young to stay focused. I had him starting until one game he found a marble in the second qtr and refused to play again because he was worried I wouldn't give it back to him. (I had to make the parents buy shorts with no pockets due to kids who wouldn't take their hands out of them while being in the game)

I was approaching the ref, but 6 mothers raced past me and literally formed a circle around him. No way I could provide a worse fate.

I coached a 7 year old team with only two solid players last year. Luckily one was a ball handler that could break the press and half court pressure. I would rotate the other kid between the wing and free throw line and execute give and goes all game. When it was their turn to come out, my team struggled to get the ball inside the three point line. All the kids wanted to pick up their dribble as soon as they crossed half court.

If this would have happened in my son's youth league, someone with rank within the league would have been brought over to make an executive decision. That decision would most likely have not been to run the play over again.

I coach 7-8 year olds too but can't really relate because my squad is 2-0 and coming off a crushing defeat of the Wildcats by the tune of 24-6. Coach better coach.

My rotations are brutal. With 9 kids having to play at least 2 quarters, I am typically up shite creek for at least one quarter. First quarter I put my best and the 2 Defenders along with a weak kid. 2nd qtr I keep the best player in, bring in the 3rd best, and play 3 weak players. 3rd quarter is what I can't figure out. I want as many of my top 5 for the 4th as possible, but I don't want to be so weak that we get down by too big of a margin. We were outscored 5-0 last night in the 3rd and that was our second best 3rd quarter of the season.

Basically I go:
1st qtr:
#1
#2
#4
#5
#9

2nd qtr:
#1
#3
#6
#7
#8

3rd qtr:
#2
#4
#6
#7
#9

4th qtr:
#1
#2
#3
#5
#8

Saturday against the best team in the league, #1, #2, and #4 will not be at the game. #2 is my point guard, #1 is my backup point guard. #3 can't dribble and look up at the same time. My next best dribbler is newly turned 7 year old that wouldn't give up the marble. I might have 1 more that can dribble consistently without traveling. It's going to be a bloodbath.

It's my nephew that I am coaching and his Dad and I have already decided to pull him from the league next year. Unorganized is putting it nicely. I should have just said we are going to play by the rules and told the ref to do his job. At most I should have given the made shot away and agreed to 2 free throws for my player with us down 1 again. He would have hit at least one and worst case would have been overtime. I could have conceded a loss at that point.

Well, no I don't have a dinosaur. But I have a 3 toed sloth, the ADD poster boy and my 2nd best player has yet to step on the floor during a game because she gets "scayud" come tip off and cries on the bench the whole game. It's all about overcoming obstacles when you get into the big time. YOU got them behind in the first place. Ill prepared would be my guess. I wouldn't let them touch a ball for the next two practices. Pound Tex Winters Triangle offense philosophy into their heads and make them run suicides to the T-rex pukes. Good luck.

This is where you keep getting trapped, there is no compromising in your situation. End of game, you never allow a redo.. It would be one thing if the ref noticed the situation and for some reason couldnt stop play. Rightly or wrongly, they allowed play to commence and continue without notice of a perceived clock issue..

Next time, Walk off the court and claim a victory with your kids..

Sounds like my son. Oh someone misses it? Maybe I should just stand still and watch the play develop. A true coach on the court
