LA Fitness or Equivalent in NOLA?

I have lived in Nola for over a year and half now, and I visit my friend in Houston. He goes to LA Fitness, which is leaps above anything nola seems to be able to offer. Why is this? I know we have like UNO that we can go to, but why is there no real full service gyms in this area? We have a ton of Snaps and Anytimes. I recently found out about Premier Fitness which seems cool.
I am mainly looking for a gym that has an active basketball community and that I can lift weights in. Any suggestions?

LA Fitness is either open or about to open in Slidell at Fremaux Town Center.

Elmwood Fitness main campus in Elmwood Shopping Center is by far the best facility on the Southshore. I know they have Basketball courts, not sure how active they are.
High real estate values in the area make it difficult to build big facilities.

I feel like a really nice gym in Nola with a good basketball court and a full service showers and towel system could do extremely well here.

UNO is the only option that I know of.

The one in houston has a towel service where you can get towels and discard them in a dirty hamper. Its really awesome plus its free.

Pretty posh. They must have a ton of members. I´ve been to nearly all of Atlanta´s, and a few in some other states. Have never seen towel service.

JCC Uptown is solid and has courts. I'm not Jewish and most of the members aren't - it's more of a community center. Tulane and Loyola have good facilities from what I hear as well
Edit: J-Club has towel service
