He needs a severe pay cut, his time has passed and we end cap space

And this board continues its infinite wisdom in regards to one of the greatest Saints of all-time.

59 catches and 902 yards just grows on fricking trees in this league, and frick having a consistent, veteran presence in the locker room.

Colston at 6.7 or 7.7 cap hit, worth it?

I would think so. Graham is oft-injured and dinged up, Cooks still needs to grow into a complete receiver, Stills needs to be more consistent, Toon needs more experience with Brees, Meachem is gone, and now you guys want Colston gone.

He has inconsistent games and some bad drops/fumbles this year, but the guy can still produce solid numbers. Cutting him to profit 4.3mil while losing 5.4mil seems pointless. What WR would you replace his production with for 4.3mil?

I think it is very short sighted at best to think that the saints should cut Colston. One of the rare players in the league who played through his vastly underpaid rookie contract without holding out and all of the drama and fanfare that goes with it. I hope the Saints do all that they can to reward Colston for his hard work and dedication to this franchise.

Also, I think the drops this year were a fluke. I was actually surprised at his ability to get open.

He has amazing hands his entire career and all of a sudden can't hold on to the ball? That isn't age

It is certainly worth it if he takes a $1+ million pay cut next year. Hell, it might be worth it to extend it 1 year, convert base salary into a signing bonus to push it down the line 2 years while the cap rises

This wasnt the first year of drops and fumbles. I can remember as far back as few years ago to the opening night vs the packers and then the 49er playoff game. He's not consistent anymore

It really is. He had 1 fumble this year (really 2, but we got lucky). He has 10 total fumbles for his entire career with 4 coming in 1 season. So if you take out the high and low, he averages less than 1 fumble a year

He didn't have a fumble in the 49ers playoff game. Sproles had a muff, Roby had a fumbled kickoff, PT had a fumble when he broke his jaw, and Brees had 2 picks.

He's had a fumble in a few opening games, but this really was the 1st year they were a problem and not a small occurence

He dropped them in key situations. I doubt he has as many targets as a lot of the guys on the list either.

But that is also kind of the point. It stood out b/c he has always rarely dropped the ball

We all think of Bill B as the best coach in football.

What do yall think Bill would do with Colston?

I think he would try to get him to take a pay cut and let him go if he doesn't.

His contract sets up better to be cut next season, not this season. A lot of dead money. A slight discount this year easily makes it worth it.

We aren't going to get better production from a FA without paying at least $5+ million/year.

Here's his drop % for the last 5 season and where it ranks:

2014 - 11.94% - 44th
2013 - 3.85% - 4th
2012 - 8.79% - 13th
2011 - 2.44% - 2nd
2010 - 9.68% - 25th

He didn't go from 4th to 44th b/c of 1 offseason of aging. He also seemed to play better down the stretch

I would think so. Don't know how accurate sportstrac is, but his cap hit of $9.7M in 2015 will put him tied for 12th just ahead of Brandon Marashall & Victor Cruz. Dropping to $6.7-7.7 puts him 17-19th range w/ Boldin, Decker & Steve Johnson.

Honestly, when looking at the list; I am ore inclined to think he is properly being compensated

And per overthecap, his average has him ranked 15th just ahead of Decker & Steve Johnson

While he's been a great player for the Saints, I wonder if he's a starting receiver any longer. He had some crucial drops last year and he's ony getting older.

He's not a #1 recv any more thats for sure.

CSP puts Jimmy out wide covered by a teams #1 CB.
Leaves us with Colston or Stills as our #1 option at wideout. Just not going to get open a lot if your depending on those two. We will see how CSP uses Cooks next year. And Stills is still young and could have more upside yet.
I hope we get a veteran FA recv to bolster the WR corp. Nothing cap busting but someone who shaves at least.

Putting him as the slot 3rd would mean less wear and tear and letting stills/cooks become the next nelson/Cobb. Lol too hopeful.
