Who has done this and passed 4 tests? Did you fail any tests along the way? If so, what was the issue.

The standard is kind of vague on bringing bird to hand. If my dog brings the bird to my feet, is that the same thing?

I'm not trying to have a championship dog, just want us to have some goals in the offseason to keep him sharp. Got him back Saturday, took him on his first hunt Sunday. This is Hank retrieving his first duck (redhead hen).

So all he has to do is bring you a bird 4 times?

Correct, 2 land singles. 2 water singles.

You have to pass that test 4x to get JH certification.

isn't this the Started qualifications?

Junior would be 2 retrieves and a blind in both land and water right?

They should've, had 3 groups of redheads decoy and we only got 3 birds. I was not shooting at every group because I was focused on the dog not breaking on gunfire. We also had 2 groups of BWT come crashing into the blocks.

I never ran dogs in junior (akc) or started(ukc) because I knew I wanted to compete at a higher level and spending the money didn't make sense. If I were you I would find a training group. You can learn a lot if you are with a group.

I understand the rationale, but my dog won't be ready for next level of tests until this time next year (9 months old today). I just want to do it.

There are only two land marks and two water marks. You are allowed to leash your dog until it is time to cast him. The dog must hold the bird until you take it from him. You will be disqualified if you touch your dog before he releases the bird to your hand.

My lab got her HRCH titles UKC only, but that was 10 years ago, can't remember any details of the requirements but she was awesome.

I'll be running mine in his first started test in February. I'm not all that interested in titles but it's something fun to do with my dog and my son in the offseason.

This is spot on for AKC Junior tests. Been a while since I've run one have helped judge a few but that's been a while too. IMO if going for a title in AKC shoot for SH at a minimum. JH tells me very little about a dog by a title most dogs can pick up 4 singles. I want to know a dog shows some control can do a blind and has some memory SH dogs must show that to pass then of course MH is quite the accomplishment in AKC. Same would go for HR and HRCH in UKC.
