Brought my TV in to get looked at. Said the main digital board needs to be replaced. Wanted to charge me $313 to repair the thing. I might as well buy a new one at that point. So I'm trying to find the part and replace myself if I can find it cheap enough but I'm having trouble finding it. The tv is a 42" Vizio e470vl Hopefully someone here can help me out. TIA

Open the TV and look for the exact part number on the motherboard's sticker. But.. I think this is it. LINK Best way to know is to check the part yourself.

Think it's worth fixing at $144?

cheaper than buying a new 42" TV, but I don't know how good or bad that model is to say whether you should sink more money into it or just spend $400 on a newer model.

There's no guarantee the replacement part will work. I don't care what they say; all these places pull them from dead TVs and put them up for sale without testing. If your part is a common failure mode for your TV, you might go through a bunch before finding a good one. Some of these places are real scummy and have many aliases, but shopjimmy is one of the better ones and will accept returns and even pay return shipping if you can convince them the replacement part was bad.

About finding the right part, it's best to match TV model number and serial number to a parts list for that serial number range. You may be able to get the part number off the board, but it may not be specific enough. For example, google /shopjimmy sony tcon serial number/, and you'll find things like this:

LINK

quote:

LJ94-03424E Partial part number (3424E) can be found on the sticker.

Used in models with Sony serial numbers: 1,000,001-1,050,000 and 1,700,001-1,800,000 and 1,900,001-1,950,000.

One of the great things about shopjimmy is that they do post this sort of information, which can be hard to come by.

Yeah I initially did a quick sweep of the part number on eBay and found some pretty sketchy listings.
