Perfect choice of glass

I approve. That's a badass rig. If the bolt is barely touching the scope you could get rings a few mils taller and you wouldn't notice the difference.

ETA: not sure about other brands of rings, but I think leupold rings are about 0.010" difference in heights. The height is on the box. You could get angry with a micrometer and figure out exactly what you need if you were ambitious enough.

I shot it last weekend open sights and honestly, it's not bad at all. Between the weight of the gun, almost 10 pounds and the 1/2" thick recoil pad, there's not much pop. It's a lot of energy, but its not snappy at all, didn't leave my shoulder sore. I would say it's easier on me than my 45-70 crack barrel.

Thanks, I like the wood too, it's purty.

Guy I bought this one from swore that it wasn't as bad as his 30-06. I don't know if I believe him or not. It is a 9 1/2 pound gun and has a he of a recoil pad, but damn, that's a mighty large round.

Yeah, pretty big difference between the two. .375 H&H kicks about the same as my .338 win mag with similar gr.

Thanks. I can't wait to shoot something with it.

It's just barely rubbing. It still passes, just gets caught up a little. Regardless, it's unacceptable. I want to stick with the Alaskan Arms rings, they are badass. I really like the cam lock design. They only make one other size. I may email them and get the size difference. With those QD to rings, I'm already off of the bore quite a bit. I could probably take a dremel to the bolt and shave it just a hair. That would probably do the trick. Try to blend it in and refinish it, nobody would ever know.

Just the absolute smallest amount from the handle. Wouldn't take much.

You could shim the base up a few thousandths.

The more I think about it, I'll probably just get the higher rings. It's the right thing to do. I don't know how well shimming would work with the quick detach dovetail rings.

Go with Talley QD rings if you can.

Alaskan Arms > Tally

They are made especially for the CZ 550, there is a tab coming off of the back ring that fits into a cutout on the dovetail. It locks it in place so it definitely doesn't move during recoil.

You can see it on the right side, where the ring has a piece that drops down past the dovetail. Tally doesn't make one, to my knowledge, that does that. Alaskan Arms has a Cam Lock QR system. 1/4 turn and you can take your scope off. 1/4 turn and you can put it back on. I like it more than the regular lever QR rings.

This. Shim between scope and ring. Aluminum foil folded will work. Or could get really thin sheet metal.

I might give it a shot, I'm not sure if I'll be able to shim it enough though. It's a bummer.

You will be surprised.

Will really be a bummer if you come back and show us a picture of you grinding on the fricking gun and Downshift brings his Stihl over to your house to drop a loblolly on your truck in retaliation.

I've used cans before, but it was a mount that fastened on the sides. The shim distance is just taken up by the screws not going as deep. These rings are fastened at the top and bottom. If I shim it, where does the slack get taken up at? Seems like it would create more stress on the tube.

This, please don't grind the bolt. Try cutting a small strip off a aluminum beer can. I've used this before with success.
