Draft Prospect CB Trae Waynes, 1st Round Pick In The Right Scenario?

I know alot of you are against taking a CB in the first but this kid is climbing the charts and could fix our CB problems. Right now he is the #1 CB prospect in the draft and should still be there at 13.
My hope is we cut one of either Jahri or Grubbs and sign a FA like Mike Iupati from the 49ers. If we were to cut Jahri it would save us close to 6 mill of cap room and I think we can get someone like Iupati for that amount. Then we can draft a center in the 2nd round.
So if that scenario was to play out would you guys still be against drafting a CB in the 1st?
Some info on Trae Waynes:
STRENGTHS: Does an excellent job using his body and length to gain inside leverage and keep outside receivers from getting comfortable vertically. Tough-minded competitor and plays with a physical, downhill demeanor, delivering a pop at contact in run support.
Always keeps his eyes alert to quickly diagnose and break on break on the ball with natural ballskills to make plays.
WEAKNESSES: Thin-limbed and is ?all arms and legs? with his lanky build, clearly lacking ideal bulk and muscle definition. He is too easily pushed around by wide receivers, too much of an ankle biter in run support and needs to develop his functional strength.
He needs to stay balanced in his transition and his technique tends to run hot/cold due to his tendency to bite the apple and freelance.
COMPARES TO: As a sophomore, Waynes played like a young Kyle Fuller and if he can introduce more discipline to his game moving forward, he will have bright future in East Lansing and the NFL.
• SECOND-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN (WALTER CAMP, SPORTING NEWS, ATHLON SPORTS)
• FIRST-TEAM ALL-BIG TEN (COACHES, MEDIA, ESPN.COM, ATHLON SPORTS, PHIL STEELE)
• THORPE AWARD SEMIFINALIST

One of the best defensive backs in the country, Waynes cut his teeth under the tutelage of 2014 first round cornerback Darqueze Dennard the past few years and has developed into a potential first round prospect himself.

The Sacramento Bee doesn't expect the 49ers to re-sign impending free agent LG Mike Iupati.
Iupati has made the Pro Bowl the last three seasons and is expected to test the open market. The 49ers have rookies Marcus Martin and Brandon Thomas as in-house candidates to replace him.

The problem with first round CBs is that historically they have not performed well in their rookie season. There are ones that have and they are getting better with more eyes turned toward them in the early parts of the draft.
I don't mind because it's a need.
The Iupati deal is tricky because it would mean bringing in another high priced free agent while taking a large dead money hit to cut loose another high priced player.
I like Iupati but your scenario is a 12 million dollar swing. Iupati would have to be a home run.

I really like him and wouldn't be unhappy with the pick.

I think he has more of a chance of being a home run than Jahri which we will pay 11 mil to if we keep him.
By the way I in no way dislike Jahri, he has been great for us but it seems time to move on from him, with all his back problems and stuff.

really hard to make an argument against any defensive front 10 player.

I don't dislike Evans either. He's been solid but appears to have started a decline. If he's healthy he may prove otherwise but back problems for lineman can become chronic.
Iupati did battle injury this season but he's younger and could be great for the organization. Will have to see what the saints do with their roster contracts and cap?

If we can't acquire a solid #2 CB in FA I'm sure we will look hard for one in the first couple of rounds. So if the #2 is unfilled I have no problem with it.

Good. Some arse team wants him at our pick at 13. We load up on picks for endless "project players" win win

He's like a 3rd or 4th round pick and I wouldn't have a problem with it. Could turn into something.

1) I'd have no problem taking Waynes. We need to shore up the CB spot.
2) Jari might have to restructure, but I don't think they cut him. Just don't see it.
3) Iupati will be too expensive and some team will pay him a buttload of money.
IMHO

I'm afraid of this too, but he also said he wants to go somewhere that has a chance of winning, so that cuts out half the teams right there. Hopefully Loomis can work his magic and get him what he wants.

If they traded back and took him I'd be fine but not at 13.

Waynes is solid. Wouldn't be upset if we took him. But I do believe Marcus Peters is a superior corner prospect. His getting dismissed from the Huskies and his overall 'tude do raise some red flags, but nothing I've seen marks him as a real problem to have around.
Smart, athletic, great cover corner that just has that "It" factor to me.

Currently the contracts look like this:
Jahri Evans:
2015: 6.8mil base salary, 3.5mil prorated bonus, 500k roster bonus, 200k workout bonus, 11.0mil cap hit (5.0mil dead, 6.0mil savings)
2016: 8.0mil base salary, 1.5mil prorated bonus, 500k roster bonus, 200k workout bonus, 10.2mil cap hit (1.5mil dead, 8.7mil savings)
Ben Grubbs:
2015: 6.5mil base salary, 3.0mil prorated bonus, 100k workout bonus, 9.6mil cap hit (6.0mil dead, 3.6mil savings)
2016: 7.2mil base salary, 3.0mil prorated bonus, 100k workout bonus, 10.3mil cap hit (3.0mil dead, 7.3mil savings)
I'm honestly going with Evans being restructured (saves 3.2mil 11.0mil->7.8mil cap hit) or pay cut 6.8mil->2.8mil, but chances are he's not going to be flat out cut.
Grubbs is a tricky one, it doesn't seem reasonable to cut him, but it doesn't seem reasonable to keep both guards. Cutting him this year doesn't do much. Pay cut seems reasonable (6.5mil base), but at the same time a june 1 cut might be more reasonable (3.0mil dead, 6.6mil savings this year instead of 6.0mil dead and 3.6mil savings; you do lose 3.0mil or the total 10.3mil for 2016 though if you were to just outright cut him)
Jahri Evans:

Well that works and frees up money to... Or trade one of them. Does the dead money go away if they're traded? I dont even know.

I believe the bonus count against the team if they're traded before june 1.
Now what makes a lot of sense is cutting Grubbs and coming to an agreement with Iupati on a contract, signing him post june-1 so the grubbs money comes into effect.
looking at it this way, after the lofton, graham, galette, and byrd restructures we're sitting at being under the projected 140mil cap by 300k (139.7mil). June 1 cut Grubbs -> 133.6mil, 3mil pay cut by Evans puts us at 130.6mil, 3mil pay cut by Colston puts us at 127.6mil, 2mil pay cut by Bunkley puts us at 125.6mil, Hawthorne being cut puts us at 122.6mil, Bush being cut puts us at 120.6mil (no dead money from him).
That is not even touching Brees' 26.4mil cap hit either.
Honestly, that happening as planned is 0.01% because I don't think 3 players taking a combined 8mil pay cut is going to happen
a guy can dream though.
