i bought a 452 scout for mack jr #1 when i was first getting him started. it has been a GREAT gun that will out shoot 99% of the people that own them. it was an excellent gun to teach him the basics of fire arms.

You run open sights for jr?

My kids have a CZ 452 Scout. Out of the ammo I have tried, CCI Green Tag and CCI SV were 5 shots one hole results. I have some other target ammo to try the next time out, but I doubt it can get much better. I was surprised, but M22 shot slightly better than the CCI in my 10/22 with a target barrel. It didn't do as well in the Scout.

open sights is what he started with. i knew he was gona bump the scope off zero and get discouraged when he couldn't hit anything. i added a scope to it later to teach him how to shoot through a scope (learned on hogs before crippling deer). it worked well for me/him and i'm doing the same with mack jr #3.
ps: mack jr #1 is a SERIOUSLY good shot now (for a 15 yr old) that i'm not gona stay ahead of for much longer.

I use the iron sights for inside 20 when I need to be quick. I typically don't try to show off with what I can shoot iron sighted. If someone challenges me to it out further, yeah I will, but using my scope is 100x easier.
Mueller APT 4.5-14X40 mildot on it. I wouldn't bother with a scope if you're trying to teach kids though. Gotta build fundamentals first, and the iron sights on a CZ are the perfect start. At least you'll know it won't be a gun problem when you/they miss a shot
Mine also came with a bench test at 30 yards inside an inch

I can update it again now. Shot it at 100 today, and was getting 3" groups with Winchester subsonics using a bean bag on a bench. Forgot the good shite at home and had to wing it. Wind was minimal and at my back. No pics because I didn't feel like walking that far twice.
50 yards was 3/4" groups.
I'm happy and want to do it again with better ammo to see what it does. Don't know if it was me or the ammo that got the 3" groups, but I shot my dad's Ruger American 308 and did 1" groups about an hour earlier.

I have the CZ455 in .17 HMR and love it.
Keep in mind that there are several variations/sub-models of the 455 and not all of them come with iron sights. I have the 455 "American" model and it does not come with sights.
One of the great things about the 455 is that you can get conversion kit barrels for other calibers (.22 magnum and .22 LR). I think they run about $120 each.

My 512 is very accurate and probably one of the best 22mag rifles on the market
