So he went somewhere with not a ton of D talent, for little money increase, and was forced to recruit.... thread on the rant is true - this is weird.

Honestly, I know this was all meant in fun, but I hope other don't try to bash the guy. It makes us look petty. He was and is a great coach. SO, before others comment here and bash him, remember what he did for LSU for the few years we had him.
Let's move on and be grateful with what we have and hope improvement continues.
ETA: I will admit that pic is funny though. Chavis' reactions and old man face always made me laugh a little.

I respect guys that can recruit, cuz I would be miserable talking to/texting kids all day. Trying to relate to people 25+ years younger with no life experience. no thank you.

as would I
Man, imagine sucking up to an 18 year old kid all day who really hasn't proven much at all. Some love it though and treat it like a game.
You've got to be one damn good salesman to do that work which is why a lot of men prefer the NFL.

Nice edit. The way he left (to go to a division rival, no less) is enough reason for me to bash him.

Then why become a coach? It's like a professor who hates to teach. What were you thinking it was going to be like?

Chavis did a good job for us over the years, which I absolutely respect, but he chose to leave us for a rival so now...
HE IS TIGERBAIT

Well, the role of a professor vs trying to sell a kid something by befriending him...seems very very different. Especially if that kid expects to be coddled and sucked up to...not that athletes are that way though.

I agree with you, but the way Chavis handled his exit seemed to really denigrate the university that helped him restore his reputation after Tenn.
He could have been more forthright and stayed focused for his current players and employer.

Well, I guess I prefer to let him go and move on. Just my style I guess. Just want our fans to show class at the end of the day.

i'm with ya, but respect is earned and lost... he lost a lot of respect in a lot of people's books with how he exited, and combined with passionate LSU fans and Louisiana residents, in general, and i can understand the need to degrade him, for a little while anyway...
personally, i know it's part of coaching, and he was a good one... could have handled it better towards the end there, but it is what it is.... i'm just glad we finally got someone, so we could finally get back out on the recruiting trail, and along the way we picked up a great recruiter in Orgeron... fellow down the bayou guy and all...
