Is one badass mofo. Not sure if that's a good price or not. I would think that's fair.

That's a pretty good price, neat guns and smooth shooters.

That's a pretty decent price. I paid 1450 for my M1A Scout a couple of years back and it only came with 1 10 round magazine.

For that price, for a SOCOM II and 3 mags, I'd get it.

Cool guns, but I always wondered why someone would want such a short barrel for a .308.

I guess the same thought with carbine AR's. Better versatility for close quarter combat? I wonder how much the accuracy suffers out to distance if at all with that shorter barrel. I think the shorter barrels look superior but prlly do nothing for it as far as function.

Stupid question, but what makes this gun so expensive?

Most AR rounds were designed to shoot out of a carbine length barrel.

7.62 NATO/.308 isn't terribly sensitive to barrel length in terms of velocity loss, not as much of a penalty as 5.56 incurs. Shorter barrel is more rigid for a given diameter which means accuracy can improve.

Same reason some Ar rails can cost over 200 bucks. Just for a machined piece of metal. Cause they can I guess.

correct

i think the velocity loss from 22" to 16" is less than 50 fps. to me the only downside to the the shorter barrel is that it is LOUD...really loud

I read something awhile back about how 7.62 suffers from some tumbling 150-200~yards out out of a short barrel, but for what this is I don't see how that would be a huge problem.

I wouldn't use it for very long range shooting just out of "superstition" if nothing else

Killed many a deer with a 16" barrel - also range shoot with it @ 2-600yds

Okay but yours is a free floated direct gas system with what looks like a thicker barrel than the tacticool M1A in the OP. it can work with the right system but from what I've read, most people barely get 4-5 MOA at 100 with the SOCOM. I just don't get the point. 18" is my bare minimum for a .308 and that would only be for a bolt rifle or free floated AR.

Ruger GSR is a 16" bolt-action and, as already stated, short barrel has very little if any penalty on accuracy with good ammo. What you've read probably didn't talk about ammo selection or the talent behind the trigger. 2 MOA ammo with a 2 MOA shooter isn't going to produce good results no matter what.

It'll be loud, but you don't loose much performance vs a 20" barrel and like someone mentioned earlier, short barrels are stiffer than longer barrels of the same contour and can potentially shoot better.
