Hey OP - I posted this a few weeks ago and am reposting to urge you onward. You can do it and IT WILL get easier. You will still have moments when you want to dip especially doing outdoor activities. Hang in there and think about how shitty and beat up your gums are every morning when you wake up - God be with you!

I dipped for 15 years and got up to a can and a half of Cope everyday for the last 5 years. I had leukoplakia that the Doc thought was cancerous and had a biposy, was put on Wellbutrin and other medications to help me quit and I never did. Nothing worked period.

10 years ago, I looked at my wife before bed and said this is my last dip and I am quitting. I discarded the empty can (I used to dig in the trash after previous quitting attempts to find half full cans). I went to bed that night with my gums feeling like old wilted pieces of leather and my wife doubting me once again.

I stuck to it, had the jimmy legs every night for three nights and acted like a little slap happy teenage bitch. Not sure what made me do it after so many failed attempts that included a cancer scare and prescription meds, but I did it and I am so happy I am free of that massive addiction. I go hunting and fishing with friends who dip and do not even miss it.
Good luck OP, if you want it then you will do it.

I have some coming in the mail tomorrow. I've done them in the past and been able to put my Copenhagen down. Unfortunately I end up with a grinds packet in my mouth all day.

At least its just coffee and not a cancer causing agent though.

I used to chew a few pieces of gum and tuck it in my check, just to make it feel like something was there.

10 years and 50 lbs later, I'm still here.
If they proved to me that it doesn't cause "anything", I'd be looking for a deal on Red Seal and plastic cups.

But, it does cause "stuff".
I quit, you can too..

Eta:, not directed to you brass, but op, whoever it was.

my health insurance jumps $50 per month in July for tobacco use. it will become the common practice with insurance companies. I quit smoking 19 years ago but dammit, I love a good dip!!!!

That's my motivation too. After 45 years of dipping, I now have to say goodby to my friend, so I can save on medicare supplemental insurance.

It's a fricked up world we live in now.

I still get a dip doing outdoor stuff although I rarely get one elsewhere if at all. I never was that much of an addict that I needed to have a dip every waking minute of the day. I think I can get about 2 or 3 weeks out of one can of snuff so I think I am good.

Goodluck OP on fighting the urge to start back up.

I hate reading stuff like this. Scares the crap out of me.

I dipped Cope for a long time, and switched to Grizzly snuff a few years ago. Been going at roughly 1/2 can a day since I was in high school. Pushing 15 years now. I hate it, but I love it at the same time. Made it quitting for 2 months before, and then my dad had a heart attack and I stayed with him for about a month and a half before the stress of the situation influenced me to start back. I want to want to quit. But like many others have said, it has become an association with almost EVERYTHING I do. Driving, reading, hunting, golfing, tinkering, mowing, etc. It frickin sucks, and I wish I had never started

it took my a couple weeks and me putting on ten pounds to quit.

That's the thing I fear most. I maintained 225 lbs from HS, was in excellent (football) shape entering boot camp, lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks of basic. A.I.T and lots of beer hall quickly put the 15 back on.

I retired in 2000 and have blown up to 258. Now I have to stop dipping and risk 258 +. I just don't feel like dieting and exercising to keep it off.

You sound like you want to quit beHop. I dipped all day. Cope like I said in my post and I would also put smaller dips in the back and sit in board meetings with a dip in and no one could tell - yes, I could swallow (insert joke). Say an earnest prayer, grab your balls and man up to the addiction - you can quit, it is not worth it.

+1

I'll quit eventually. (Doesn't everyone say that?)
